Harry Maguire becomes the world's most costly defender ... some sadness in Leicestershire but generally he goes with our goodwill and best wishes ... in marked contrast there are cascades of tiny tears and spectacular temper tantrums in Weymouth ...

Personally I think the lad will do well and is just what United need ... haters are always gonna hate ... but only time will tell. <cheers>

Agreed,
Man Utd are still one of the richest sports clubs in the world. 80mill is **** all to them. Never really get some people’s fascination over transfer fees.
OGS wanted him. Man Utd got him.

They’re more the kind of signings that Fergie used to make than the signings of the managers who followed him. Yes Fergie would sign already proven players but arguably some of his greatest transfer successes were players that he elevated to a level they weren’t supposedly capable of achieving. OGS is a good example. I’m more comfortable with the current transfer plan than the scattergun megabucks approach of recent years.

Aye, but there's only one Fergie!

Still, I'm sure you'll start the season positive and hopeful of improving.

If you signed Dybala, now that would be an epic signing.

It’s unfortunate that Maguire has suddenly become such a **** player.

Didn't say he was ****, I said Alderwierled is better. And nearly 1/4 of the price.

Just surprised you didn't go in for him, or anybody for that matter.

He’s the one I’d have least hope for given our track record with South Americans!

Unless he's got some underlying injury issue, then Alderwierled has still got 3-4 years at the top. Seemed like a bargain at £25m and he's miles better than Maguire.

Agree with this, think it must be injury or wage demand related.

When it comes to negotiating, it's not going to help having Alexis zero ****s Sanchez sat around being made a millionaire every two weeks.

Agents are clever dicks. Small transfer fees or free transfers are being sold as bargains, but over the course of a contract the club is paying so much each week they probably end up paying more.

Maybe the Roma coach is the only one who sees £25m for a 30 year old Alderweireld as good value.

<laugh><laugh><laugh> true

Got to be better than ****ing springboard Lukaku. It's a postcode lottery where his first touch ends up.
Dybala will be an easy target for the press and Internet forum fans. If he doesn’t match Lukaku’s goal ratio he’ll be slated despite being a different kind of forward. I’m bored of it already! :azn:

Maybe, but £25m is peanuts in today's market for a proven prem CB who arguably could play at a higher level.

He’s an expensive short term solution.

On the money ... Maguire will give you 4 - 5 years at his best and, in my opinion, he's actually a bit underrated .... I stand to be corrected and will hold my hands up if I'm wrong ... but Steve Bruce didn't do bad and Maguire has all his attributes ... plus skill on the ball. <cheers>

Those two are better, James for £15mil is a speculative gamble. If he turns into Giggs then they will laud it as an amazing transfer. The likelihood is he either gets injured or fails and Man Utd somehow recoup most of that money from a club that likes to make the occasional nonsensical buy when they have a bit of money (ie West Ham).

The most positive thing about the transfers is that they are British. For our national teams it means more European experience. For them, if anything happens in future with Post no-deal Brexit registrations then they will be ok.

I just think overall Maguire and Wan Bissaka are not even close to the narrowing the difference between Man Utd and Liverpool or City, even if we are solely talking defensively.

AWB is a ****in baller. £50m will look like a snip in less than 6 months.
