Its a big risk putting your faith in youngsters in key positions. I'm all for youth (colin doesn't use youngsters enough for me), but you need experience in the spine of the team. It can be pretty lonely as a keeper if things start to go wrong and it can finish careers before they start. I assume he's considering him for the first team as its unlikely you'd loan a player for the 23s. Why develop a youngster for someone else?
I would tend to agree with you. That said Martyn Margetson has coached the lad so they must believe that he can do the job. His father is/was Gareth Southgate’s best friend - they wrote a ‘joint’ book about their friendship - Woody and Nord. Worth a read
Or could Mulder or Nordsfeldt be on their way out. I am just worrying a little that the only players we are looking to sign are players he has coached as 17 year olds. who knows how they have progressed or if good enough.
I did wonder that myself - given they want to save cash, having 3 ‘first team squad’ keepers seems an extravagance - especially with Benda in the U21s as potential back up should an injury be picked up by Woody (if he’s ‘The Man’) - can’t see Newcastle wanting to loan him unless he was guaranteed a shot at being Number 1
that's what I said is worrying me. we just cant sign players because he has worked with them before all the time.
they were senior players though, I don't mind that. most of these are kids. that's why I am not sure about it.
The club is all over the place and if we have a bad August i would not like to be in Coopers shoes, He won't know what has hit him from the fans.....
Looks like we could be using A Ayew this season, we have not been able to offload him, maybe he will pull his finger out and recover his career, and yes pigs can fly!!.............
I agree Phil, but if they clicked, Baston, Pederson & Ayew would be a pretty formidable attack in the Championship.
That said, we can but hope ..... https://tbrfootball.com/should-newc...hip-ace-with-club-reportedly-keen-to-get-rid/
We need Ayew atm as an option. The club should have focast on a Striker than a Keeper we dont need. There has been plenty of time since it was just a rumour that Oli was wanted.....No preparation nothing incase he was sold and now it has happened and we are left with no recognized goal scorer.....What was Birch and Cooper thinking ffs......Shows his inexperience there.....
I suspect that keeping and integrating Baston would tend to suggest that they were expecting Oli’s departure. £20m plus saving his salary is a greater ‘cash’ win than selling Baston for a song. Yes Baston’s wages are higher but the fee for Oli makes it a no contest in the Cash Stakes
But Taff there is no benefit in raking in £17m rising to £20m if he does well and not spending some of it on investment on players we need....Our defence is not good as it is and now we have to take a chance on two players that were rubbish before upfront.....It is a hell of a risk imo..
