Next stop a home game against Inter Milan. At this point, if you'll forgive me, a little personal moment... I'm going to this game with my daughter. The 'old man' was due to be coming with us. It was going to be his first trip to the new stadium. Unfortunately, it's a trip that he will never make, as he passed away 2 weeks ago today. It would have been his 70th season of going to the match (as he called it) and he never lost his enthusiasm for Tottenham Hotspur (even when we were dreadful) and going for a pint before and after games. He could be a strange bloke sometimes and true to that, there's been no funeral as he wasn't in the slightest bit religious and ****ing hated them, in any event. So, I'll be raising a pint in his memory pre-match.If you fancy joining in, his name was Peter. Thanks.
Sorry to hear, Brian. If he happens to be reading this from up above, he’s welcome to share a pint with my Grandad, Des. He passed in Feb at 92 years old. Similar to your Dad, he also never got to go to the new ground but I’m sure he’s been enjoying his Caffrey’s ale during match days looking down on how amazing the place is. I’ll be sure to raise a pint for Peter.
Cheers. Like you, I was Tottenham before I was born. I'm from the 4th generation of supporters and my daughter is the fifth. In an age of increasing detachment, it is something that unites my family. There have been times where Spurs has been the one thing that has kept relations going. There are parts of my family who I'd probably never see again without it. I'll raise a glass to Des and particularly to all those supporters who didn't get to the new stadium and make sure that I book that stadium tour soon.
Sorry for your loss, Brian. I’ll be sure to raise a glass at 3.06pm. Why 3.06pm you ask? According to the sky sports app, that’s when the game kicks off, bizarrely.
Getting the Spurs bug through family must be a wonderful thing - I’ve never had the experience of going regularly with family, but I imagine it’s a very special set of memories. God forbid I have kids of my own any time soon but it would be nice to think one day I’ll be able to pass it on to someone else and that they will think back on memories of going to our wonderful new stadium fondly - even though it’s a very different experience to going to WHL back in the day! Will raise a jar to those memories lads
Son had his version ruled out and he was booked...it was that ridiculous VAR FA Cup match v Rochdale (I think). It's that kind of inconsistency thst pisses me off.
It's a shame that the Audi Cup is a meaningless pre-season trophy, as the cup itself is quite nice! A lot of them look tatty, gaudy or cheap.
It's hilarious to see the Twitter knobends typing themselves in knots, though: either it's a meaningless pre-season trophy, or it's the only thing in our trophy cabinet This is your brain on Europa League football
I've known nothing else but it's always been something that I've recognised as a blessing, even as a youngster. I'm very close to my siblings and cousins, even the odd Gooner amongst us (my dad's brothers went to watch both teams on alternative weekends). Seeing them at Spurs and laughing a lot, win or lose, are some of my most treasured memories...as is doing the same now for my daughter. September 27th will be the 50th anniversary of 'The Old Man' taking my older brother and me to WHL for the first time. It was intended that 4 generations of our family go to a game, probably the 3rd Round of the League Cup (if we get a home draw) to mark that and his 70th season. Unfortunately, we'll just be the 3 generations present in body but we'll all go and mark a very treasured memory, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and good wishes. As I said to my daughter at the screening of the CL Final..."These people are your tribe and that sense of belonging will last you a lifetime." Love to you all. COYS!
I find it hard to think of him leaving at all. He's really seemed to get how much we love him and what he's brought. It's a shame that the money gets in the way...but such is modern life.
