To be fair we have got McNulty in which leaves us with him & Grigg vying for 1st choice and then Wyke as backup. Shame to miss out but not the end of the world. Does also make Pompey more competitive which is a problem.
Don't want Marquis. His scoring record is hardly incredible, he looked bang average whenever I saw him play last season, and seemed to moan at his teammates a lot. Would rather stick with Wyke, genuinely.
Once we got McNulty in with the fact that we generally only play with one striker, I was settled that we were no longer interested in him. Will it strengthen Portsmouth? We will have to wait and see.
Although it's based only on the slimmest of evidence, I think McNulty is probably better suited to our (Jack Ross') approach. We have Wyke as a Plan B target man type. Although hopefully he won't be needed.
Not bothered about it because I didn't think we were interested once we'd signed McNulty but he scored for Donny and will most likely score more for Portsmouth. Just wasn't to be with this one.
It doesn't make then any more competitive if Jamal Lowe is off to Wigan - he was a proper pain in the arse last season.
Marquis had a good season last. But he’s not exactly prolific. They’re losing Lowe who had as good a season really so no different all in all
Ive known about Marquis a good few years now mate, my mates a Millwall fan and ive been to a few games with him so i used to watch him when he played for them as a kid. Hes a very good player, his next move should definitely been to the Championship. Like you say losing Lowe kind of balances it about abit though.
I like Marquis, but Lowe was more than a striker he’s a bastard handful drifts in and out. Her tormented us a few times.
bearing in mind the number of times we played Pompey they didn't hammer us even with Lowe, I am confident they will not hammer us this year i genuinely think we are better this year than last,Especially if we can find why Grigg goes hiding during games and get him firing.
They will miss Lowe though he was their best player and probably the best in league one last season, i am very happy with Mcnulty he has to start on Saturday though. Peterborough are the biggest worry now though, Doncaster have weakened them selves.
I agree on Peterborough. They are going to be a very dynamic, very attacking side. Forward line looks lethal for this level, and great supply from midfield.
Likely against the rest of the league, but perhaps not against us, in particular. This following link is to highlights of last May, Doncaster/Coventry or Marquis/Willis. ...And this is how Willis looked last match as well. I saw Hume track back 10-13 times against a crafty RM with a bit of pace last match. The attacker only got one ball in, and never dribbled past Hume. That one ball in was a harmless cutback to an area where we had two players and the other team had none. And Hume only conceded one corner in those attacks and it was the wrong call. (McLaughlin was complaining and they showed the replay). Against Lowe, in particular, and against pretty much every other RM, Oviedo conceded corner after corner.
