https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...y-signings-funds-latest-updates-a9020646.html Can't find the original source that I read - the gist of it is here though you could read it as a 'wooly' statement, I read it in a positive way
Not a lot I fear. Considering Poch said the club needed to be brave and operate in a different way this summer, I’m amazed that they've have only signed Ndombele and Clarke and only sold Trippier. Looks like Eriksen, Rose and Toby will all be Spurs players which is good though.
I haven’t seen the interview, but apparently Poch got quite angry in an interview after the game when questioned about what was going on with transfers “Maybe the club need to change my title. My job is to coach the team it's not a question for me it’s one for the club, it's not in my hands.”
He's getting more agitated as each interview goes by. Highly, highly concerning and I know people will rightly tell me to keep the faith I base my opinion on hard evidence and all of that evidence points to the fact that we are a sell to buy club and so far we haven't sold nearly enough to buy. Simple as. If financially we're not yet able to break that mould, I'm fine with that. It would be nice to know if we ever will be able to get there though without ENIC selling.
If, even with : 1. the profit I believe is there after the past two seasons ; 2. which includes a serious first repayment on the new WHL debt ENIC are still operating this summer with a "sell to buy" model, then they need to either get out or change the mentality. Not doing the latter is going to drive Pochettino out the door.
Regarding “sell to buy”, you’re absolutely right about previous windows. Even when we signed the magnificent 7, bale’s departure was on the cards, and we all knew it was coming eventually. As for this window, we’re currently at approximately £35m net spend, and in fairness, we’ve broken our transfer record. Therefore, we have to wait until the end of the window to see if the final outcome is the same as always before we can judge. I think by default there’s already going to be a bigger net spend than we’re used to because we haven’t got anyone we can sell for good money. (Certainly not without leaving us massively short of quality, anyway.) If we sign Sessegnon, it’ll be because rose is leaving. Those fees will likely cancel one another out. The talk is that Eriksen won’t have to be sold to fund Lo Celso, but even if he is, those fees will also pretty much cancel one another out as well. That’s going to leave us with a net spend close to what it currently is. But as you say, based on how we’ve operated in previous windows, I certainly don’t see us making a net spend of over £100m+. There’s absolutely no way we’re signing Dybala and Lo Celso. To be honest, I’ll be gobsmacked if we sign Lo Celso, and still have Eriksen. - The more I think about that transfer, the more I think how overstocked we’ll be in midfield, and how Lo Celso would be eriksen’s replacement, not an addition. Then there’s the fact that we’ve only got 8 days left, with other outgoings needed. A lot of business in a short time frame, with Daniel playing hardball. Doesn’t bode well! Still, as I’ve said, we’ve broken our transfer record, so we have to give levy the benefit of the doubt for now... even if he’s leaving everything so ****ing late AGAIN!
The press conferences have all been odd - Poch is certainly giving the impression of being a bit peed off, but being asked the same questions every time you sit in front of the press in pre-season must get a bit annoying. How many managers actually talk about incoming transfers in the media? I am not even sure you can without risking tapping up accusations so what is he meant to say? His demeanour is worrying, but lets see how he is once the season has started and he isn't being constantly asked about transfers before we jump to the wrong conclusions about his state of mind.
This sounds like he’s pretty pissed off!.... Poch said (Football London): “The club need to change my title and description, no? My job now is to coach the team. It’s not a question for me, it’s a question for the club and maybe they change my title and description. I told you before I am not in charge about the individual situations. Of course, I am the boss deciding the strategic play, training, mentology and philosophy are my areas, but in another area I don’t know. Today, I feel like I am the coach.” On why his role has changed: “I cannot answer, it’s not me. I am only the person that is on the touchline managing the team. The question is not for me and I do not have answer. I tell you what is my responsibility. “It’s difficult to talk like this but I think it’s not in my hands. Only I describe the situation of what happens and I think it’s important for the players and people to know that I am going to be, like I told you before, that I will be happy with the squad that the club are going to provide to me. Of course, we will give our best. My mood is always the same and my emotional balance is always similar. I am emotional, but I am a person like everyone that thinks a lot. Only I describe the situation to make clear that if you have some question that I am not the person that is going to answer what you want.”
Dunno about "keep the faith", he comes out with some weird stuff at times but his annoyance seemed particularly focused on his position at the club this time. Not sure we can hope for him staying longer than this season with what he's saying, especially off the back of him repeating again that he'd have left if we won the CL. In regards to transfers, we've never been rash. Other sides can get things over the line quickly but that involves overpaying, we can't afford to do that and be lumbered with even more players we're trying to offload but no one wants them. We're likely to lose Jan and Toby at the end of the season, Eriksen might go at some point too. If taking longer and getting a better deal for the players means we're in a better position to move for players in the future then I think it's worth it.
i think he knows Levy better than most and his comments and demeanour suggests to me that he knows his ambitions and Levy's dont align. At the end of the day one is a football manager who aspires to be the best and the other is a businessman. Poch is all about loyalty...i think he would happily build a legacy but he knows it wont happen under ENIC. If we won the CL he would have left? its because he knows he wont equal or better that with ENIC's mindset. I very much doubt he would have left Football for good, that would be pathetic after just 1 trophy for one of the most sought after young manager's in the world.
I wonder if Trippiers comments when he left about something going on behind the scenes was about poch and levy falling out over transfer ins and outs ,I hope not poch is the best manager we've had for years .poch stated that he wanted new players bedded in pre season for whatever reason that hasn't happened and poch seems to be getting frustrated over it but I can understand him getting annoyed when the media keep asking him the same old questions time and again.let's hope it's just poch winding them up and signings will be made before the window closes.
I don't know why the media think it's some kind of revelation that Poch isn't 100% in charge of transfers. With the exception of Harry Redknapp, none of our managers of the last fifteen years have been
The revelation is that for the first summer in 5 years, he has dwelt on the point in almost every interview. Six separate occasions by my count. The second revelation, to me, is that there are many fans not in the slightest bit concerned by this. I admire their optimism and wish I was cut from the same cheerful cloth but the signs, yet again, are very worrying.
Except it isn't the first time: he was making similar comments in the last two summers, but the hacks hadn't decided to make that Narrative headline news at that point, nor had the dipshit brigade stumbled across an agreed upon hashtag for it
The irony with this twitter bollocks is that the same fans who are saying #BackPoch are the same fans moaning that he wants to move on Danny Rose whilst is seemingly willing to let Toby go, too.
