Last season was his breakthrough season, so he's still a raw talent. I was listening to a french football pundit who said that Pepe started off in goal ! Then he was playing in the 3rd tier in France and when he moved to Lille he was stifled (as were the whole team) under Biesla. It was only last season that the shackles came off and he exploded into the player he is now. Anyway, this pundit reckons he's come a long way in a short time and still has several levels to go up to.

I think you badly underestimate Emery, but yeah, we'll see how Pepe does in the Prem soon enough <ok>

Was watching clips of Henry the other day, still probably my favourite striker in the Prem, prem goat if ya will for me.

Like a Swan gliding on a lake at what seemed like 30mph sometimes.

    I think I just seaped a bit.

Don't get me wrong, signing some players is what Arsenal need so you can't knock them.

You do wonder why the **** they haven't bought a 50mil CB or 2 though, it's as clear as daylight that's what they need.

I'd also be very surprised if one of their big players don't leave. Namely Aubameyang, then you have to question if Pepe is better than him... everyone knows that answer. NO.

Cebbelos (sp) is only a loan, so I'm not even bothering with him right now.

Emery showed zero tactical awareness last season mate, that's not even my opinion as it was so clear towards the back end of the season. Anyone that watched you last season could spot it... you may disagree but he's actually not very good.

No, I said I'd 'be surprised' - I certainly ain't betting on a transfer window... bearing in mind this window could be as bizarre as seeing Maguire become the world's most expensive defender. <laugh>

Plus I don't bet avatars, said that for years.

It was a poor end to the season no doubt, in Emery's defence he was still trying to work out what his best formation was with the players he had. So I can cut him some slack for that. This season is different though. The target is top 4 and we need to see a big improvement.

Maybe but I'd personally be seriously concerned if it took a manager 9 months to figure out a decent formation.

I just don't see anything from him as a manager. Next season he has to get top 4, huge pressure now.

I hope you do, as long as we do too!! I'd prefer Arsenal to do well than probably all of the other top 6 tbh. Plus it might **** Utd up a bit more <cheers>

Have you seen Maguires stats for last season?
He was marginally beaten overall (but came out on top in many attributes) by one player, that player was playing in a much better team at the time.

Not sure, I get the impression you are buying before selling so you don't get rinsed.

I'm probably wrong but it's a gut feeling with who you're looking at buying etc.

There was so much change at Arsenal last year, literally the whole club from top to bottom. From the board, the manager, the coaches, the recruitment staff, everything changed. So last season was basically a settling in period. Yes we finished poorly, but there was enough in last season that I saw which gave me grounds for optimism with Emery. I can see what he's trying to do and it will take some time.

But yeah, pressure is on this season. Top 4 is the target and Emery will be judged by whether he can attain that or not.

Maguire does more defending because he plays for a **** team. That skews most stats massively.

Plus I'd rather trust my eyes than stats. He's miles off being in the top bracket in the world.

He was 1 point off after having a first season with a squad he inherited and quite a few injuries whilst playing mix and match to see who was capable of what system.
I expect Arsenal to be much better this season

We won't be selling Aubamenyang this window bruv. Simply ain't happening.

But yes he's just turned 30, so Pepe might be a long term replacement for him.

You mean like bringing the ball forward, keeping possession, dribbling and forward passing?

He is a good defender too though <ok>

Excuses. All new manager's deal with all that all the time.

He was brought in to improve, not get worse or do the same as a dinosaur Wenger.

I'm happy to cut him some slack though and see what he can do this season. I just didn't see anything that would fill me with hope if I was an Arsenal fan. Like I said this season is now huge for him. I wish him luck.

He has improved us. All the stats back that up. And in his first season.

Like I said, I think you badly underestimate Emery.
