  2. Not sure it's a good move for him at all money aside. And its not like he wouldn't command a handsome deal here. By all accounts he didn't find it easy to adapt in Spain so God knows how he will cope with China.

Didn't speak the lingo or go out enough with the team preferring to play golf it seems..

They lost 7-3 to A.Madrid so maybe need the Bale money to revamp the defence!

BTW Saw Dave's lot won 5-1 at the Kennel!

    :afro:<cheers>

He has 3 years left of his contract at Real and they want a transfer fee for him which is reasonable. Wherever he goes (other than back to England) he is going to have to adapt and integrate a little, which he has difficulty in doing - to live, and earn fantastic money, in a country without making any effort to learn the language is ignorant, and an insult to the fans who maintain him in his present lifesyle.

Not sure you have justifiable evidence to make that assertion ???

I find it galling that his own coach publicly lambasts him and says he can go.... he then strikes a deal.... and they then pull the plug.... all about money of course.....

Well, from all reports I have heard he has been at Real for 6/7 seasons without attempting to learn Spanish. If a player came to Watford and, 7 years later, had made no attempt to learn the language of the people who pay his wages (the fans) then I think you would take a dim view of it. The only thing which has ever interested him about Madrid, or Spain, is the money - and so you reap what you sow.

  9. I do have an element of sympathy with that view but what if he really isn't able to get to grips with a new language? He wouldn't be the first. And I don't know whether it is the case he only cares about the money - do any of us really?

The thing is Dan that a certain amount of multi linguality is part and parcel of being an international journeyman footballer. As an example Frenkie de Jong was taking Spanish lessons before his transfer to Barcelona was finalized (later plans to learn Catalan), Guardiola took a year's private tuition in German before going to Bayern. You would expect even a Polish bricklayer in the UK. to have the rudiments of English after 7 years residence - you don't have to be an intellectual to do it. If all he can do after 7 years is a combination of English and sign language then he is going to be very isolated there (even bad Spanish would be better than none) Zidane only speaks French, Arabic and Spanish (no contact to English) and so direct contact is not possible there. The only thing which concerns Zidane is the cohesion of the team, and there have been enough complaints about Bale's aloofness from other team members for Zidane to act. I know that Messi is also a bit reserved, and aloof, at times but he carries his team on the pitch to compensate. Bale is under contract for 3 years - it would be better for both sides to part company now, but you cannot expect Real to allow that for nothing. The fact that he has come to some personal agreement with a Chinese club is irrelevant as long as there has been no agreement between the clubs, and I have not heard that the Chinese have actually offered Real anything as yet.

Sadly I think the comment underneath rather sum up the lack of concern or interest in Bury's plight - most seem to either be personally abusive to the guy who wrote the article or one basically saying Bury are a small club so no-one cares..

Yet we hear loads of comments and debate about how Newcastle haven't spent 100 million again or how Man U can only afford 2 50 million pound players.

Their fans are heard much more but the troubles of clubs lower down really do put them into perspective.

England is lucky having so many professional clubs, some would argue too many. No matter where you live there is going to be a team local to you, and that is different to many countries where the team nearest to you might be a couple of hours drive away. Quite often a fan starts supporting a team when they are quite young, and once committed to that team never change for the rest of their lives. My start to being engrossed with Watford goes back to 1950, and for many years became used to be a smaller club, so I know how the fans of the current smaller clubs feel.
I am afraid that that English football has become a mirror of the country, the haves and the have nots, and far too many people are not bothered about these clubs who struggle to get by. Many owners have no love of a club, in fact as I watch what is happening I see asset strippers who come in, and leave a trail of destruction behind them, often small companies who because of the owners love for the club have provided goods and services at a special rate.
Yes there are good owners, and I would put the Pozzos into that group as they have been so respectful of our history while making the club sustainable. With the Premier League and the English Football League operating as two separate entities, the division of money awash in the game doesn't find its way down to the small clubs. Small club finds a player of talent, sells him on for the money, and once the money has been spent to keep going, they are back to where they were.
Some people only want to see the best, but I enjoy watching the best and the ones who give of their best. Tomorrow I will watch my local French team that is not wonderful, but you can see the effort that the players are making. I just hope that the authorities here stop a club like PSG buying out the whole of French football.

Wilfried Zaha has handed in a transfer request at Crystal Palace, Sky Sports News understands.

Strange that Everton have made it clear that they want him, and now he is unsettled enough to want out of Palace. Maybe he would prefer somewhere else, but so many times players are stirred up by clubs letting the press or agents know that they should break a contract.

Letter to UEFA from an irate Dutchman on Twitter:

    Dear UEFA
Next week we're halfway through August and Dutch Champions and Cup winners Ajax (not to mention Champions League Semi finalists) or Greek Champions and cup winners PAOK will be out already. But Italy's number 4 (just for example) hasn't had to play yet. Yet you still have the nerve to call it the Champions League.

    Couldn't agree more.

It is with a combination of outrage and disgust that I have to inform Bolton Wanderers fans that the deal to sell the club to Football Ventures has been temporarily suspended in the last hour.

Late this afternoon, we were informed by lawyers acting for Laurence Bassini that he had been awarded a court order attempting to prevent the sale of Burnden Leisure Limited, part of an action against a company owned by Ken Anderson.

It beggars belief that Mr Bassini, a man who publicly professed to care passionately for the club, has now, through his actions, threatened its very existence.

Despite a long and hugely complex process of negotiation, we were finally on the brink of completion this afternoon when Bassini’s order was served.

Our lawyers are now in conversation with Counsel in a bid to overturn the order immediately.

To think that this piece of scum once had his hands on our club.
