Agree with this. Husband is simply a player City have outgrown. He filled a gap in SW's first season but soon became a back-up player when Jamal Lewis arrived. SW hasn't made many mistakes in his time here. Franke was the biggest loss (£2.5m) but it's amazing he's the only overseas player who failed to adjust to English football. Marley Watkins was another brought in to fill a gap after the exodus of players and never adjusted to Farkeball. More recently Ben Marshall proved to be a player who didn't fit Farkeball and was left behind. Other than the failed loan deal for Marcus Edwards, that's it. On the success side are 14 players plus Jamal, Max, Ben and Todd who came up into the first team. Then there's the four players signed in this window, all of whom look the part so far plus the 7 young players to join all those previous players signed for the future. In that light, SW's record looks pretty good.
When he joined Citeh back in 2015 (along with Patrick Roberts), Aleix Garcia was considered to be a winger: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/sto...ity-sign-aleix-garcia-from-villarreal?src=com He must have pace then, and TranferMarkt list him now as a DM/CM rated at £2.7m, so it'll be interesting if there's anything to this.
Not loads of pace, but faster than Tetty and Trybull would be in DCM. Maybe he wasn't seen as fast enough to continue as a winger.
I'd feel more secure and confident if we had him, or someone of his ilk, on board ready for the new season
Pep likes him a lot, but when you can bring in the best players in the world...There's only so long a young player can await their chance. We have another loan spot don't we? I'm not sure if you can loan 2 players from the same Premiership team, I don't think you can. So would have to buy him.
Ben Marshall's contract has been cancelled by mutual consent! https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/201...th-norwich-city-terminated-by-mutual-consent/
Another few bob off the payroll to bolster DD's 'war chest'. But no makeweight in any (unlikely, but still possible) deal for Hull City's Jarrod Bowen And not exactly a glowing tribute from the club on announcing the news, either. Short...and not so sweet - a bit like BM's Canary career!
Aston Villa now into £120m spend. Norwich City and Sheffield Utd tipped to be relegated. The Fulham big spend model didn’t work last season, so it will be interesting to see if it works for Aston Villa. We appear to be following the Huddersfield model from a few seasons ago which has now proved to be unsuccessful.
Hadn't realised Marshall made just 6 NCFC appearances, that's dreadful. I think Bowen is out of our price range, but swap deals are rare anyway. I don't think this has any impact on that. Someone "ITK" claimed that Marshall had plenty of interest, but presumably nobody interested enough to pay a fee. Cut him loose and let him spend all of August sorting himself out, if it were to be a transfer we wouldn't have as long left.
As I said the other week, I can't see how we could afford Bowen. Even with Marshall as part of a deal. Also, he is now being linked with Newcastle.
Well it was successful until Webber left to join us and their manager bailed out, if they stayed then who knows where they would be now. So it hasn't proved anything.
Huddersfield failed to keep up SW's emphasis on young players for the future. Wagner went defensive a la Hughton and then was sacked. Never recovered after that.
Just to bring relevant news from the Pre-season thread onto here: Tettey might require a small operation on a groin injury. Definitely a longer setback than first expected. Regardless, it sounds like he won't be ready for Liverpool, and will have missed all of pre-season. Knowing how Farke likes to ease players back in, that could see him out of the first team picture until at least the end of September. Trybull is therefore our only recognised DM for the opening weeks of the season, with Godfrey/Vrancic possible solutions if we get desperate. Given that, perhaps any rumoured interest in a DM might be stepped up?
That's possible DH, but DF seems to be working on a McLean-Trybull partnership at the moment, possibly with Anfield in mind? Though happy with the squad, he did say that if another player or two became available it could happen. Tettey's situation worries me and with Thompson out as well DM does seem to be a position in need of strengthening. We only have one place left for a non homegrown player though unless someone were to leave.

David Freezer analyses the possibility of any more players coming in this window: www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/david-freezer-ben-marshall-norwich-exit-1-6185997 As the poll indicates, DM seems to be the foremost concern of most fans, though there's still a possibility of Rhodes returning.
Why? In some sort of ambassadorial role? The club have Pukki, Drmic, Srbeny and Idah. Plus expect gopals from Hernandez, Buendia, Roberts, Vrancic etc and I'd suggest Rhodes is surplus to requirements. 63% on that poll suggest a DM is top priority.
If nobody else comes in for Rhodes, I wouldn't rule out a last minute loan/nominal fee, freeing up Srbeny or Idah to go tear up League 1. But yes, seems there's widespread acceptance that DM is where we're weakest. Listening to the Pinkun podcast yesterday, they made the point that if you could choose two players to be injured from our squad, Thompson and Tettey would probably be first choice. They'll probably have the least impact on the squad this year.
