I think Klopp plays a very clever game - say it isnt a fair playing field, then if he fails (and he did fail last season in the league), he can blame money without referring to paying huge sums himself (just as Laces has said).

If he wins, well then out come the buck ****ing teeth and he will lord it up over how brilliant he and his team are and shower in his own spunk.

I'm not a Klopp lover btw, in case it wasn't clear. I think I may prefer Brendan over him, and he over achieved the season they came 2nd with a team I dont believe was anywhere near as good as Klopps.

Agree but i dont think its clever its pretty obvious, however he is the media darling so they don't challange him on it. Instead they support the retoric and keep shoving the nonsense down peoples throats.

How on Earth was that a failure? <laugh>

He achieved their record points haul in the Premier League era, and lost one game.

Because he lost the title - the objective was to win it. They were clear and they choked. Again. <laugh>

It’s not exactly subtle when it’s been pretty well publicised all the big money signings they’ve made. Like who is reading that and thinking...oh yeah Liverpool are doing amazing as they can’t compete with the money the likes of City spend...

If that were the case Van Dijk would have gone to Man City and tbh, not stumping up the cash for Van Dijk, improving their team and stopping Liverpool from improving theirs is the biggest mistake Man City have made in recent seasons. Especially when they’re willing to spunk £50m on bang average players like Kyle Walker.

So, if I ran the 100m and smashed Usain Bolt's world record, but still finished behind one other guy by 0.01, you'd call me a failure?

Too right I would, if your objective was to win the race. You also wouldnt have broken a world record, but would have posted the 2nd fastest ever time.

Liverpool set out to win the league, they had a fantastic season and almost did it. But almost isnt really the same as doing it, is it. Therefore, did they pass or fail their objective. I guess it depends how you are looking at the metrics that define success or failure. In my metrics, setting out to win something means first is successful, the rest is not, therefore is subject to be deemed a failure against the objective.

When Bolt got his world record can you remember who finished 2nd? Thought not.

But there were factors outside of Liverpool's control. Any team's objective should be to do the best they ever have. Liverpool did that.

Ask any Liverpool fan if they consider their season a failure.

I can't believe some of you guys are still actually laughing at Liverpool. They absolutely smashed it last season. Their fans are loving it.

Fans of other teams still trying to act smug about Liverpool's league finish just look embarrassing.

It's like if I had a threesome with two supermodels, and you decided to laugh at me cos I didnt get their phone numbers.

    Good analogy that. :emoticon-0103-cool:

Thats not the point. You ask the guy who finished second if he was pleased with his performance. Thats what counts.

You can't blame a guy for catching no fish, if the river has no fish in it.

I think you chose a bad example there with racing as the guy in second is going to be pretty disappointed and clearly aiming to win the thing if he's good enough to win a world record.

You often get this weird thing where the guy in first and 3rd seem really happy and celebrating while the guy in second is in tears on the ground.

    Nah
No mate - thats a pretty crappy analogy to explain the situation. I for one are not laughing at Liverpool, I think they failed their objective.

You now banging on about their fans loving it, I am sure they are, but our conversation was about success and failure, and if you set out to win something and come an agonising 2nd, is a great season, but it ultimately fails in its original objective.

And wft - factors outside of Liverpools control - what they had competition for 1st place - isnt that the entire point of the league!!!!

And sorry Black, no teams objective is to come 2nd - part of their KPIs may have been to better the previous season, so that is a tick, but still falls short of winning the league. Its a bit like saying we aim to come 4th from bottom and narrowly missing out by a point and coming 3rd bottom, but we beat our points total from the previous season. Yeah, we'd still be down in that scenario and the season would be a failure...

Anyhow, happy to agree to disagree!

I kinda get your point but surely you can see the funny side in the holy grail eluding them yet again despite one defeat all season?

Yeah, if they hadn't won the Champions League maybe.

But to me its like when Pompey laughed at us for getting knocked out of Europe or losing the cup final.

    You're in League One ya c*nts <laugh>

Anyway, each to their own, its all good. :emoticon-0150-hands

Ron Dennis: “Second is the first of the losers”

Though it’ll probably get attributed to Nigel Adkins.
