Irish exodus as thousands more emigrate in search of work The number of people from the Republic of Ireland who have emigrated has risen sharply by about 30%, according to the latest figures. In the 12 months to April this year 40,200 Irish nationals left to settle elsewhere. The figure for the same period the year before was 27,700. Overall emigration is estimated to have reached 76,400 in the year to April. Immigration also increased over the same 12-month period, but to a lesser extent.
