Possibly controversial opinion: if you combined Ferrari's engine and Red Bull's chassis (and crew!), Mercedes would barely get a sniff.
Lance Stroll just produced the most exciting qualifying lap I can remember in some years. Wasn't good, but he had that thing sliding around the course like he was a Targa driver.
Screws the race at the top too unless Max does something mental. If they have to change Charles’ engine he’ll start from the back too.
Small consolation: Kimi's fifth. I hope he gets a great start so that he can try something certifiably insane through the first few corners.
Defending champion Geraint Thomas helped his Ineos teammate, 22 year old Colombian Egan Bernal, win the maillot jaune today. Bernal will become the 4th Team Sky/Team Ineos rider to win the Tour de France, something no team has ever achieved before.
Ineos, whatever you might think about their unsavoury financier, are a real team. Bernal won the yellow jersey yesterday after Geraint urged him to attack the Col de l’Iseran, which turned out to be the final climb because of the landslide. As soon as his teammate was in yellow, G was happy to ride as a super-domestique for him, exactly as Chris Froome did for Geraint last year.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/49138033 Very interesting! Not sure how much we should be reading into this score, but SA have certainly regrouped after their hammering on home soil by NZ two years ago. My feeling is that NZ are not as good this time, and the likes of SA, England and Wales have, perhaps, closed the gap, And never discount Oz as they only turn up when it is the WC.
Here’s a great photo of the wonderful Peter Sagan finishing yesterday’s stage. He pulled that wheelie all the way up the final uphill 100 metres or so, and held it right over the line. Later in Paris he will receive his 7th maillot vert, which no one else has achieved.
Hockenheim in the wet with Verstappen on the front row, Vettel/Leclerc with places to make up, and Kimi close enough to the front to bring a bit of madness. This ought to be fun.
Heh, yeah, sure...let's put everyone on slicks and do some pirouettes. Edit: and just as I post that, Leclerc stuffs it. They were doing so well. And now Hamilton off! What a terrible decision to throw on slicks by everyone.
