  1. 4 games in, 8 points, 4th in the table, 3 clean sheets, only 1 goal conceded. Still in the cup. Great start to the season.

What ratings would you give to the players for their contributions so far? And also who's been our player of the season so far?

Krul - 9 - He's had his bad moments, but his overall play has been fantastic, and he's earned us points by making excellent saves. He's been excellent so far. He was one of two players that earned us the 3 pts vs Fulham.

Simpson - 6 - He was good against QPR, and was one of the players that earned us a clean sheet, so i'll give him a 6 overall so far out of generosity. We all know he has the ability, but perhaps matters outside the ground like his kid and his girlfriend were having an effect on the lad. Lets hope he returns to form now.

Taylor - 9.5 - Fantastic so far, his tactical awareness has improved greatly. He used to be all power, but no brains, as he would get caught out loads. But now he's using his head and is a tactical defender as well as a powerful one. He's reading the game fantastically at times, and has earned us points by some fantastic defending. He must have made about 3-4 goal line clearances so far, including the one in the cup.

Coloccini - 9 - Great season so far. I'd say not as good as Taylor, but has taken the role of captain well and him and Saylor have been an awesome CB duo. Definitely one of our better players.

Raylor - 7 - His goal against the mackems earns him credit for now, as well as his goal vs Scunny. He was shakey vs QPR, but we shouldn't be harsh on him for one bad game. He's won us 3 points against the mackems, and defended well 3 out of his 4 pl games so far. He's not a great fullback but he's done a job and filled the LB spot as well as we could have asked him.

Obertan - 7.5 - He's gradually gaining confidence. He played his part in the Fulham winner, has tracked back well, made some great runs and passes. He's actually quite strong in the air and on the ground, which is surprising because at first glance of the the lad, he looks like a breeze would knock him down. Fair play to the lad. When the crowd gets behind him he looks much more confident. Good so far. He's put in a good graft.

Cabaye - 7.5 - Gradually getting up to speed. He's showing great aggression and tackling, and quite often during games he'll produce a fantastic pass or an awesome shot. He set up his fair share of chances and seems to pick out Besty well. He's threatening the goal and has got an assist, and i sense a lot to come from him.

Tiote - 6.5 - A bit off the pace at the beginning but he's gradually starting to improve. He was good vs Fulham, ok vs QPR. Not as bad as others have said he's been though. He's dispossessed quite a few opponents so far, skinned a load, made some decent passes and played a decent part times. Lets hope this ramadan is over soon so he can eat more bull's testicles to regain his true form. <cool>

Gutierrez - 8.5 - Very good from him so far - People may think this is too much, but he's been up and down the pitch so much, his stamina is unbelievable. I can't believe he can do it for 90 minutes. He's been commanded to help out Raylor at the back and do his part going forward. I'm not saying Obertan hasn't done this, but Jonas has done it like no other. Extremely hard working bloke.

Best - 8 - Been good so far. Wins most balls in the air, makes chances for himself, him and Krul earned us the 3 points vs Fulham. Does his job and knows his place, and never really complains, just gets on with his job. Hope for more goals from him.

Ameobi - 4 - Very little to praise him about so far. More disappointment. He should have got an assist vs Sunderland, but that's about it apart from holding the ball up a few times, but most of the time he distributes the ball poorly or simply loses it.

Ba - 6.5 - Wasn't impressed with him vs Arsenal, but whenever he's come on as sub he's been great, and you can't blame him for being quite anonymous when playing along side Shola. He looks a lot more active when playing with Best, and has set him up for a goal. He's not a target man, but he's a good striker overall and he should play along side Best, taking down his knock downs.

My player of the season so far has to be Saylor - He's been awesome.

Agreed with the exception of Tiote...... 5 at best, he has been pony.

  3. Sorry but i think people are just rating Tiote lower because they're comparing him to his form last season, in reality he's not been that bad, just not good compared to his form last season when he's was getting 9 or 10/10 every week.

  5. Jesus you're really negative....

That's ****ing ridiculous. You're entitled to your opinion but our players have been way better than that.

I'd say most are there or there abouts. A bit lower for Best, Obertan and Cabaye, nothing major though. Knock a point off Tiote but he'll come good, and don't think Jonas has been at 8.5, more 7.5 somewhere. Ba hasn't had the chance to merit 6.5 yet.

I'd knock half a point or a point off most of those ratings. I appreciate enthusiasm but a 9.5 is effectively sayng that a player is approaching the bast that is humanly possible, and the best that is actually likely to be seen in a lifetime of watching football.

I'd add a point to Shola. He was a 4 against QPR but quite useful against Arsenal. Ba might be ahlf a poitn better than Shola, or might not. To date he has been poor.

Also, seems fair to rate Barton considering he's play in all of our games this season.

    BARTON - 7

Coming from the person who is renouned for over zealous ratings. We've not even got out the blocks, attacking wise we've been lack luster defensively we've looking solid but we could have been easily beaten by Arsenal and QPR with the amount chances they had. We were lucky to tale anything from these games.

there's been a few stand out performers which is why I rated a select few higher, all the rest have been on the pitch and done the minimum of what they are asked to do. Hence all them getting 6

Disagree on that, he didn't do any of that against QPR, he also give Barton the freedom to move where ever he wanted, in fact Obertan did not put a tackle in at all in the QPR game. I would give him a 6, lazy and cannot beat his man but can make some good passes and hopefully he gets the confidence to start playing well.

  12. Shut the **** up about luck man. They didn't take their chances, this isn't our fault, we've still defended well, and scored more than we've conceded in certain games, and that's why we got the points.

You may call me over zealous or over excited when it comes to rating our players, but at least i'm taking the positives out of the performances, you've just looked at us in a really negative way.

It was not luck that got us anything. The chances the other team created; they didn't have the quality to take. On another day we could have lost, yes, but on another day we could have won, because there have been chances in games that we've had that we could have scored. It doesn't mean the other team was lucky to get away with it, it means we lacked the quality on the day.

I hate people that bitch saying **** like "oh if that had been Rooney on the end of that cross we would have lost the game". So ****ing what? Top teams may well beat us, top quality players may well score against us, but the fact of the matter is, they don't play on every team.

We could have conceded more goals on a different day, but we've had chances that could have been converted to goals if another one of our other players had been on the end of it.

We have not been lucky at all. Our striker smashing a 35 yard shot that deflects of another players arse and goes in the net, that's lucky, the other teams not taking their chances, that's their lack of quality on the day, which we lacked plenty of times last season, and didn't claim points that we would have deserved with our overall performance.

If we can play **** and get points through defending, it shows that we are actually improving, because getting points out of games you're second best is what good teams can do.

All our players except Shola have put in exceptional effort, and most have put in quality performances and produced moments of quality, which have lead us to getting our points.

The fact that the new players are still settling in to the team, and still playing well, is a promising sign.

  13. I agree he didn't do it during the QPR game but we seemed to be very much attack minded during that game. We left only a few players back and QPR hammered us on the break.

Obertan tracked back and tackled well during the Sunderland and Fulham game, and saved Simmo quite a few times. Most of the team were under par vs QPR, so i wouldn't judge them on that game.

Obertan IS good at tracking back, even though he didn't show vs QPR.

And calling him lazy is a ****ing ridiculous statement.

Yeah Obertan has been poor apart from a couple of bright moments. Definately does not work hard enough or track back.

I would also downgrade a number of your ratings - we've ended up in 4th, but I don't think anyone can say we've truly deserved it. We've been very poor and we've scraped results. Arsenal we didn't have a shot on target, we weren't great against mackems but fortunately they were worse, Fulham was not great except for leon best, and we were shocking at QPR.

The only who really deserve good scores at the mo are Krul, Colo and STaylor - and maybe Best at a push.

What an angry person you are tash. Someone posts honest ratings and you call him a "negative ****" because that isnt your view. We havent played that well and luck has been a significant factor as well, if Bent had been up front for QPR they'd have put 4 or 5 past us.

Results have been great, but performance wise we arent playing as well as we can be.

    This

We have not played well in any of our games this season, including the cup match. Most of the players deserve a 6 apart from the ones mentioned above.

And yes, Obertan is ****ing lazy!!

Great start to the season? The football we've played has been horrific, we're not qualifying for Europe, we're not going to go down, the least we could do is play some decent footy. It's been a mediocre start, winning the derby was great but we've been painful to watch this season. The centre halves and Krul have been fantastic, the rest have been average.

  19. Why do you make such an ignorant claim Smudger? Claiming that someone is angry because they are using nasty words on a forum?

I'd love to know what picture you paint of me when you read some of my more seemingly aggressive comments. Probably some rabid fat **** smashing his head off the keyboard, with a poster on his wall stating "you are right and they are wrong, if they disagree then tell them to **** off".

I'm sick of people looking at things in the glass half full fashion. We have not been lucky. Who cares what could have on another day? Football would be boring if the team that plays best in the game comes out on top always.

We've got results mainly because our defense, i respect that. Our defense and Krul has been the main reason we're high up in the table, but our other players have played their part too.

He's entitled to his opinion, but i don't like negative views like that, when we've made quite a positive start.

People like that piss me off more than the doom and gloom merchants claiming we were going to get relegated before we'd even started the season, or the people saying "Carroll, Enrique, Nolan, and now maybe Barton gone. FFS, that's it we're finishing 16th at best".

The cock ups will be addressed by pardew, and i'm not trying to view our performances so far with Black and White tinted glasses, but i seem to be one of few that notice quite a few of the good aspects of our players. Like i can't believe others aren't seeing that Obertan tracks back well, it's like most people on here don't even watch the matches.

Sorry if i come across as angry here, i'm not, just a little frustrated at other people. No it's not because they have a different opinion, it's their attitude towards the team so far, and most of them are nearly always like this. ****ing doom and gloom merchants.
