The best realistic thing Wyke can do to make himself useful is to work on his hold up play, strength train and stop going to ground unless his legs have been chopped off because he's one of those unfortunate strikers who can't win a free kick to save his life. If he can do all that and get into the games more his confidence and finishing might improve.
Wyke will never be the player we hoped we had signed we need to get shot asap and Grigg if he is not firing by xmas, still wish we had gone for Eaves 4 mill for Grigg why just why when Eaves would have suited us perfect and a lot cheaper
22 home games last season ! Wyke is league 2, Grigg not much better, we are right in it now, Eaves or Marquis would have been better choices, and this hoof the ball up to the strikers will never work, we were overrun AGAIN in that 2nd half yesterday, against a team that lost 8-1 at home last season, bring on fort william eh. Let's try to get Maja on loan.
good point about Maja on loan but 2 problems 1 he would cost us to much, 2 i don't think he would come as he wants to play his footy at a higher standard, but worth a try nowt wrong in asking
Playing Hartlepool behind closed doors next week, as our final pre-season fixture, I don't think we will see our best team for a game or two yet, but still, should get off to a good start. With the right attitude this squad as it stands should raise the bar, and storm this league.
Sunderland AFC v SC Heerenveen Saturday 27th July - KO 19:00 (BST) - Stadium of Light please log in to view this image Sunderland round off their pre-season campaign on Saturday evening against Dutch club SC Heerenveen. The Black Cats returned from their six-day training camp in Portugal on Wednesday after enduring daily double sessions and two games against Benfica B and Belenenses. Jack Ross’ side will now welcome Heerenveen to the Stadium of Light in their final friendly before the start of the 2019-20 League One season next Saturday. So far, the Lads have played three games – winning one, drawing one and losing the other. Goals from Ethan Robson and Luke O’Nien helped Sunderland begin their pre-season venture with a win at South Shields. Benfica B then provided a slightly sterner test as the game panned out to be a goalless draw. Fellow Portuguese outfit Belenenses then edged the Black Cats’ final friendly in mainland Europe 1-0 last weekend. New duo George Dobson and Marc McNulty will hope to get their first taste of action in red and white this weekend after signing this week. Trio Conor McLaughlin, Lee Burge and Jordan Willis will also be looking to get some game time as they also settle into the Stadium of Light after joining this summer. Max Power will be looking to get some more minutes following his cameo at the end of the Belenenses friendly. The midfielder, who celebrates his 26th birthday on Saturday, had been sidelined with an ankle injury since the Lads’ Play-Off Final game, but following weeks of hard work he made a successful return to action ahead of schedule. Johnny Jansen’s side head to the north east of England looking to round off their pre-season campaign with just one defeat from six games. Heerenveen started off in June with an emphatic 14-1 win over Buitenpost before following that up with a narrow 5-4 victory at home to SV Meppen. FC Volendam then got the better of them, with draws against Mechelen and St Pauli bringing them up to their final friendly at the Stadium of Light.
Whats up with Mcguire ? is he injured or just not picked? This side does not fill me with a lot of optimism or confidence in J.R.'s choices for some reason. Hope he proves me wrong but I still think he is being a little negative.
I presume Ross is still trying out players in his preferred formation. Is this how we're set up? Big John McG, Willis , Flanagan Gooch, McGeogh, Grant, Hume Embleton, Kimpioka Grigg
