Didn't think he sounded at all "flat" Rick, just resigned, not to the club's financial limitations, but to having to answer questions from interviewers with nothing more intelligent or informed on their crib sheets to ask but "how much have you paid in transfer fees compared to your competitors?"
So - why would you publish an article like this two (2) weeks before the new season in a higher division kicks off? https://readnorwich.com/2019/07/26/norwichs-five-most-unsuccessful-signings-under-stuart-webber/
I'll wait until I see it 'in the flesh', but if that is the colour, then I'll most likely to buying the home kit.
Just seen this on twitter - can't vouch for its accuracy, but <YIKES!!!> Premier League Panel@PremLeaguePanel Net Spends since June 2016 (£) Man City: 399m Man Utd: 375m Arsenal: 178m Wolves: 167m Everton: 161m Leic: 153m Brighton: 152m Villa: 140m Chelsea: 136m West Ham: 134m Bournemouth: 90m Liverpool: 72m Spurs: 69m Burnley: 55m Watford: 45m Palace: 38m Southampton: 20m Shef Utd:18m Newc:15m Norwich: -52m
The most glaring figure for me is that of Brighton - all that money and they are still relegation fodder. That's going to come back and bite them on the arse some day I am sure Too early to comment on villa but that could be a disaster in the making too
Some VERY interests figures there - Wet Sham stands out for me Also, how little Liverpool have spent relatively to their success.
My Grandad saw City play their first match at Newmarket Road and went to all games after that. He saw the move to the Nest and then Carrow Road. He usually went on his own until 1950 when I was 5 and he took me to the first match of that season and I was hooked. He took me to every game after that not just to every home game but to several away games as well. We went through the grim years in the 1950's when the Club was at the rock bottom, we saw every game in the famous Cup run and saw the Club, in 1960, reach the second tier of the league for the first time. We suffered the stalemate years of the 1960's and then, in 1972, we reached the pinnacle for the first time. Despite being in his 80's he came with me to the final two away games of that season seeing us go up as Champions. In that close season we were talking about plans for the coming season when he suddenly declared that he was finished and his trips to Carrow Road were finished. Surely he wanted to see City play in the top tier but he was adamant and until his death in 1979 he never went again. I never have been able to understand his decision until now. Since moving to France I have not seen many home games but have always seen every away game in or around London. Towards the end of last season my wife and son organised a trip to the UK allowing me to see two home games and 2 away games with all the travelling that involved. What I have seen in this close season has made me feel more hopeful than I have ever been about the future of the Club because of the long term planning involved. I am still fairly certain that we will come back down again but with the squad on long term contacts and the money spent on youngsters and the Academy we should be in a position to be a medium term financially stable yo-yo Club which is the best a Club of our size can ever hope for. When the fixture list came out my son, who lives in London, rang to organise my away trips for next season. The look in my wife's eyes said ' really? ' and at that moment I understood my Grandad. The 2 week trip last season had, literally, made me ill and I realised that the day trip away games had taken its toll as well so at that instant I told my son that I had finished. So, folks, after nearly 70 years I have seen my team play live for the last time and my son can now spend the next 40 years wondering why I made that decision.
Great post 1950 and your history of supporting/following NCFC over many years. I'm rapidly approaching '3 score years and 10' and luckily live in Norwich and enjoy good health, so hope to have my ST for several seasons in the future. I'm also planning on trying to get a ticket to some of the away games in the New Year. I'll be putting a bet on in the next few days that we not only stay up, but with 'daylight' between us and the relegation spots!!
Thanks mate. If I still lived in Norwich I would still be going every week as did my Grandad in his day but when you are approaching ' 3 score years and 15 ' your body readily adjusts to the climate of the Med and doesn't appreciate the UK weather nor does the body appreciate getting up at 4am for a plane and rail trip to London and back arriving back in bed 24 hours later.
Well done on your years of loyal support midway, enjoy the years you have left and please keep posting on here. Take care
The funny thing is that I should now be more regular again on here. All of this is part of the master plan agreed with Mrs1950 to cut down on chasing about and retire gracefully. Apart from emergencies we will only return to the UK in June July or August because of the climate and, apart from a month in Jan/Feb with our family in Australia, will spend the rest of the time here leaving me with more spare time. I will need you lot to provide me with information - talking of which - have we got rid of Oliviera yet?
