I'd suggest not getting a "good bike" and getting a passable bike instead, at least until you know what you want. See how much you actually use it (and where you use it) before spending the money on something expensive.
That's the lines I'm thinking hence the small budget. Could easily spend a grand without blinking on a bike, it's ridiculous!
So, I go for a nice walk on Dartmoor and when I get back to the car it's hemmed in by seven police cars, three ambulances, two fire engines, and about twenty other cars. There's a tracker dog - oh, and a helicopter hovering overhead. The road is cordoned off to one lane, and the police are directing traffic away from the small car park we're in. Thinking they've finally caught up with me, I approach cautiously, but I needn't have worried. Some woman had fallen from a tor and broken her leg, apparently. It's nice that the emergency services are all over it of course, but it did seem rather an excessive use of resources. Took us another hour and a half to get free as well.
Judging by the farty little car she was in - it was parked next to mine - probably not. She did make a lot of noise. I don't want to be cruel, she was obviously in some distress, but it seemed such a major operation for one person. It was daytime, fine weather and not far from the road. Even after they realised the extent of the emergency, all the coppers hung around trying to look busy until it was all over. Devonshire policing is obviously a slow day job. Earlier this year a friend of mine fell down the stairs and broke both her wrists. I was the only one around and had to do what I could until the emergency services turned up. We got one ambulance after about forty minutes.
It's a bit city versus country isn't it. On the one hand you expect more call outs in a city but also more appliances (or whatever they call them). On the other hand, things generally move quicker in the city and slower in the country. Moral of the story, if you're going to hurt yourself and need help, lots of it, do it on a red hot day in a remote area.
It was a hill with rocks on, that's all I know. There are a lot of them. I don't have an OS map of that part of the country so I don't know which is which.
First time watched f1 this season... but of mixed weather, rain dry rain... makes it so much more interesting! They should just make the course wet even in dry conditions to mix things up
just need sprinklers round the course and if not much is happeing just turn a couple on . First had this idea years ago only for the corrupt poisonous dwarf to come up with same idea.
Have all the races in Britain, and or schedule with monsoon season in monsoon countries. Wet weather races are always the best.
Anything to make it more interesting. Motor-racing is one of the most excruciatingly dull activities devised by mankind, imo. From a spectators point of view, of course - I'm sure it's exciting to take part in.
I was thinking there could be turtle canons on the front of each car to fire turtles at other drivers.
