Granted, he isn't getting younger but £25m and his wages are peanuts to them and on a 2 or 3 year contract he would represent a vast improvement on Smalling and Jones, give OGS some much-needed time and breathing space in bedding in his younger defenders (especially Tuanzebe who looks like a real prospect), then when he's 32-33 he finishes his career elsewhere.
Would he go there? Europa League and lots of chaos and upheavel throughout the club, by all accounts. They may have contacted his agent and been declined. I don't see why they wouldn't have signed him, otherwise.
