Joining from EFL Championship side Reading, the striker will link-up with Jack Ross’ squad ahead of Saturday’s Stadium of Light friendly against Heerenveen (KO 7pm). McNulty, 26, boasts an impressive goalscoring record throughout his career, having first moved to England in 2014 to join Sheffield United after notching 42 times in 122 appearances for Scottish outfit Livingston. During his time at Bramall Lane, he scored 14 times in 56 appearances, while also spending time on loan with Portsmouth and Bradford City before departing for Coventry City in 2017. A two-year spell in Sky Blue yielded a glut of goals as well as promotion, with McNulty firing 28 times in 51 games, including a strike in an EFL League Two Play-Off Semi Final win, which was followed up by a man-of-the-match display at Wembley Stadium, as he won promotion alongside Lee Burge and Jordan Willis. McNulty joined Reading last summer before being loaned to Hibernian in January 2019, as 17 appearances resulted in eight goals. After signing on loan, McNulty said: “I had offers from clubs at a higher level, but when Sunderland come calling, it’s a no brainer, so as soon as I knew the offer was on the table, I just wanted to get the deal done. I’ve played for big clubs before and I love the pressure that comes with a passionate fan base, so I can’t wait to get out there and show the supporters what I can do.” Jack Ross added: “Marc arrives with a wealth of experience in the EFL and an impressive goalscoring record. He understands the expectation that comes with playing for a club of this size, and he is ready to work hard and embrace that challenge. Nice to get a striker in, Don't want a loan player getting game time ahead of young Kimpi which would hold his development back. If JR can organise a season loan for Kimpi with a guarantee of regular game time then I would be happier taking this lad on loan, if he plays alongside/or ahead of our other two 'strikers' then he could wake them two up. Hope he's our missing link in our search for goals.
Well... Ross knows we need another striker and the club were looking at loans to bolster the team, rather than purchases. So he/the club are true to their word and i hope McNulty hits the ground running. He looks physical as well as knowing right place / right time and can head and shoot with both feet. Fingers crossed this one works out. We must have to shed some of the dead-wood before we can do anything else.
No idea about his quality but we need goals and if this lad can get them then I'm happy for our own players to be sidelined for a season.
Not being negative here but thats what we brought Grigg in for. Yes I hope he hits the ground running and bags a hatful but as cumbrian said I would like Benji to get his chance as well.
I'm sure he will, it's a long old season and if he's training well he'll get plenty of game time. Especially if Grigg and Wyke carry on where they left off. I suspect Kimpi will be best used as an impact sub until he finds his feet and I'm sure we'll see lots of him, Ross seems to rate him and he's featured in preseason.
See I’m not bothered who plays if we get promoted. Loaned, owned, soon to be out of contract, prima-Donna!! I think Kimpioka will play a part this season but he’s still a big unknown. If this lad does the job then great. I personally don’t mind the loan players as long as they help us to move onwards. If they are no better or don’t improve us there’s no point, but if they do then great
No issue with loan players personally, way of the world. Having said that, I'm sceptical about this one. His record isn't exactly incredible... Less than 1 in 2 in League Two and Scotland doesn't fill me with confidence. Still, maybe things will just click here and he'll fire us up the table, fingers crossed
well mate Grigg and Wyke aren't clicking either, so we will need someone to step in if these two fail
Id have preferred Marquis or Eaves, not another Jock but I guess thats the path Ross has chosen. Hope he turns out better than Wyke and Grigg.
Can’t see why everyone has written off Wyke and Grigg already give the lads a chance man Wyke at parts near the back of the season was quality. Guess people just love a moan.
We have to give them all a chance and get behind them, clean slate. The 3 forwards have all banged15/20 in at this level. Its just this level, it's awful to watch our club here.

Probably because between them they scored the same as Cattermole managed on his own, it's not so much writing them off as expressing very realistic concerns. Not like they won't be cheered on this season and supported same as everyone else.
Yeah accept that they had bad starts but a lot had to do with them both coming back from injuries then Wyke got that bad injury as soon as he came back. I’m confident both will have good seasons, Griggs proven he can do it in this league season after season.
Wyke did look better towards the end once he got some fitness but I've got to dig deeper to find genuine optimism about him than Grigg who was playing with an injury most of the season. I hope Grigg will be like a new player but they both need to do better.
Means we either play It's because he's great for our Twitter account and image. He's a great lad but you're right, I am still very skeptical of his actual ability (which I've said before).
