its a shame it didnt work out for VJ He joined our club as a step up and it didnt go to plan...he always grafted when he came on but unfortunately he seems to have had lost his confidence. Best of luck
It happens quite often to players after a transfer, they start off shaky and never get it back at that club. Often after another transfer the confidence returns and they show why they were rated in the first place.
Pochettino failed (not for the first time) in not giving him enough game time to acclimatise to the PL. Janssen failed in not doing the Brighton loan, which would have been a great opportunity to try and achieve the above for the benefit of the squad. Mexico seems a long way to go to restore your career though.
Poch hyped up Janssen a lot when he joined, I believe he said ‘he ticks all the boxes’ He then didn’t give him many chances at all. Hopefully the lad does well in Mexico and gets a chance in Europe again.
I think Janssen got more game time than most other flops (N’Jie, Nkoudou, Stambouli - the latter actually seemed a decent player whenever he played) so I wouldn’t say Poch didn’t give him enough chances. Ultimately how long can you persist with a striker that isn’t scoring goals or even positively affecting our play? You can persist with midfielders and defenders through prolonged tough spells but it’s a cruel world for a striker and unfortunately, for as much as Janssen tried, he was pretty much dog **** other than some half decent hold up play. It’s a shame it never worked out for him but I definitely wouldn’t blame Poch for this particular player failing to shine. He also done himself no favours the moment he went against club wishes of a loan move to Brighton by opting to go on loan to Fener. He should’ve jumped at the chance to prove himself in the Prem after a tough first season, so to me it showed he didn’t have the right mentality as well as the talent in the end.

Actually, it's not quite that cut and dry: the plan was to slowly introduce Jansen into the team so he'd be acclimatised by the run-in...but an injury to Kane meant he was thrown in at the deep end as our only fit striker and his confidence was wrecked as a result The same thing happened in Kaboul's first stint, with injuries to Ledders and Ricardo Rocha rushing him into first team action far too early
Now rumours that the fee was actually between £8m-£10m! He weren’t even worth a bag of chips. Monterrey, you legends.
If Sissoko can turn it around, there's really no excuse for others. I don't blame Janssen, it was just terrible dealing on our part. I said when we signed him that he seemed to have all the problems Soldado had. It was a bad move from the club and a reason why us signing nobody last year wasn't the disaster people made it out to be. Better to buy no one and save the money for when the right players, like Tanguy, become available. Anyway, he always seemed like a decent bloke. Best of luck to him and I look forward to his surprise move to Barca in a couple of years.
I recall in Vincents first match at Everton Stekelenburg made an excellent save to deny him scoring the winner - the following week v Palace he missed an absolute sitter. Had either of those gone in who knows, the confidence he would have gained may have relaxed him and the player we hoped to have signed may have appeared. It didn't and I wish him well, he always gave maximum effort and never hid in matches, I hope his time in Mexico is a success.
Reports coming from Sevilla say that we’re still at an impasse with Betis over Lo Celso. We seem to be sticking around £45 mill, whilst the asking price is some £20 mill higher.
i reckon we are hoping for Rose to join PSG. I can see Levy using that to pay off Betis's sell on fee to Paris. Thus lowering Betis's demand i might have made that up
Not at all. I stated my belief that PSG have agreed with Spurs to sort out the sell-on fee separately from Betis. Our Brian believes that selling Rose to PSG would pay off that fee (IMHO we would get some cash back on that) . Guaranteed that the < standard > Levy add-on clauses + how much PSG get from each payment made by Spurs is the issue for Betis.
If anyone thinks Thicc Vinn's move to Monterrey is odd, may I counter it by saying...have you seen the view from their stadium? please log in to view this image
Never happening. Probably a diversion tactic designed to make the Betis hierarchy panic a bit and get a move on with the Lo Celso deal. Unless Eriksen is on his way or somehow part of the deal, I can't see how we could afford the £90m+ for Dybala's signature.
Dybala would be one hell of a statement signing. Signing him would really show that Spurs are looking to join the elite. Probably just hack gossip though
