Anti discrimination charity Kick it Out have said that there a was a 43% rise on reports of racist abuse in English football in 18/19. That's a huge increase, do people think it's become more prevalent at the match or is the shift more down to more people reporting the abuse that never went away? I know that some of that will be online abuse such as Twitter etc. but apparently the increase is even bigger (46%) if you only include incidents at professional matches. I tend to edge towards this being more reflective on society as soon whole rather than just an issue in sport but what's the best way to clamp down on it. I believe these things should be self policed in the main and you'll never eradicate it from a fanbase if that's not done, is this why some clubs are seemingly worse than others?
Whilst no doubt it’s much easier to report and less concern of come back I think it’s racists who have never gone away feel happier and more comfortable voicing it. Don’t want to make this another political thread but with the likes of trump, Farage, Robinson about and the language they use it does seem to empower racists.
It's always been the same, all over Europe. The more politics swing from left/centre to right/far-right/fascism, racism becomes more prevalent.
I know im just pointing out people get abuse in life ... its never right , but you have to expect it and deal with it..non of these players are working the slave trade .... just think its time all forms of abuse are tackled or theres no point at all. Or are we saying only blacks have feelings ??
Id definately prefer to be black than ginger these days .... ginger people are yesterdays black people ... its not on .... your gain is somebody elses loss...
I think the 'Animal Thread' is a great pointer to just how people see their right to free speech on this forum. Of course in a perfect world, no one would want to offend anybody but they do. Have we all become snowflakes or should we grow a set?
it gets reported more, but is considerably less, imo. for example, the 2 racism complaints I remember from this season were both lone people, it's not as if 30,000 people were doing monkeys chants, singing '******' or throwing bananas. And in both cases it was the supporters of the same clubs that had the fan reporting it. Kick-it-out just trying to remian relevant, they're mostly lawyers so I'm assuming it's a funding drive, someone wants a new Merc. Non-profit charity simply means higher wages for the charity officials.
I think people are more inclined to report it nowadays. It’s right as well, if I wanted to listen to a ****ing ***** shout racist abuse I could sit at home and watch Matth’s YouTube channel. One bloke who stands behind us at the game always shouting ****e at Pogba, I’ve told him before ‘He can’t hear you mate’.
Brexit has given the bigots confidence because they have learned that theres alot of bigots around Power in numbers
