Continuing from a past article I did on future races: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...-(Gossip)-Formula-One?highlight=future gossip Cape town, South Africa South Africa may return to the F1 scene as early as 2014 as a new circuit in cape town along with former SA GP promoter Dave McGreggor look to push forward. But I dont think it will be as good as kyalami Paul Ricard, France Not sure if this is a done deal yet but It is planned that the French GP will return in 2013 as it race swaps with Spa in Belgium on alternative years. Its not a bad track but I prefer it both were on the calandar full time. Imola, San Marino Breaking news a few weeks back reported that San marino has finished updates to the track safety and has finances that removed it from the F1 circus not long ago but with a growing Race list can F1 sustain 2 races in one country anymore? Tehran, Iran A new sports multiplex is being built just outside the capital. The plot will include housing, hotels, shopping centres, an Olympic grade stadium and.. an FIA F1 grade Race track. The facility is called (comically) I-Land and a lot of westerners think its a wind up. Ratchadamnoen , Thailand Thailand are the latest east asian country to want a spot in F1. Spured on by thier neigbouring countries they will want to boost tourism and awareness using F1 and have recently had a foray of F1 demonstrations (which these rumours normally come about from).
I am not sure it I want any new races on the F1 calandar because it will not be able to increase anymore so if new races were added they would have to replace existing races and Bernie will not get rid of the crap ones because they pay so much money, which means that if new races were added they would more than likely replace older, classic tracks which I do not want to see.
It was because of this exact problem that alittle while back they were talking about revisiting the Concorde Agreement which only allows 20 races a a season so they can bring more countries on the calendar without replacing existing tracks. This was probably suggested by Bernie. Thailand and Iran won't happen; there's already too many Middle East/Asian races, and are really just wind-ups that probably can't sustain an annual F1 race. So we have America for 2012. At this rate we're introducing a race a year, but the 2013 race is yet to be announced. Most likely Paul Ricard or Imola and depending on if one or both is introduced will probably decide when Cape Town comes onto the calendar. It'll be good to see some un-Tilke tracks and just good old-fashioned races.
If Spain and Italy are going to be allowed 2 Grand Prix then I think it paves the way for a Welsh Grand Prix. There would be lots of gradients and a high chance of a wet race at least In all seriousness I don't think any more races are needed, I could settle for a few bad races being dropped for better tracks, but unless that track is shaped like a $ that aint happening.
This what people reckon the Cape Town GP will look like: please log in to view this image Looks good. A good mix of high speed straights, high-speed corners and low-speed corners. Not convinced by the section that goes through the stadium, as it would take some serious renovating to get the tarmac laid down which would ruin the stadium being used for other events. But other than that it looks great, great scenery, a few good spots to put the pits, DRS, etc. If this design is kept (which i seriously doubt) it will easily be the longest track on the calendar.
maybe a new york circuit, has anybody played forza maybe one like on there with long straights and sharp turns
I like that feature on the cape town track where it goes in and out of the stadium, Thats pretty cool. I hate that track, Im always in the walls =/. Maple Vally has to be my fav track on that =)
Yeah it's definetley unique and really adds a new dimension to race tracks and looks cool. Soccer fans will disagree with all of that though and that's why it won't actually go through there
Wasn't there talk of a russian grand prix a couple of years ago, think they'd be interested anymore they still have a russian driver racing. Id like to see the Paul Ricard circuit aslong as it wasnt sharing races with Spa, could share with valencia least we wouldnt have to watch that borefest every year. also need to get back to imola loved that track even though will always be known for that tragic weekend in 1994 i did love the races there
Cape town is around 5km, Spa is longer. That track looks like it could become a classic, going through a stadium is a genius idea. I really want to see a london grand prix though.
There's a street circuit in Durban South Africa I believe....Didn't the A1 race there? and I think F1 raced there years ago but I'm probably wrong
