Small transfer update From our City reporter Gregor... I understand that Bristol City are close to wrapping up a deal for Newport County youngster Owura Edwards. Edwards is an exciting winger and is another young player from the Bristol area - and is the brother of Opi Edwards, currently on tour in Florida with the Robins. This could be an exciting future prospect for City and the deal has taken some time as City have assessed Edwards and then had to agree compensation with the Exiles (as we reported back in April). Should be finally completed soon.
Surely you don't believe him? All the newspaper speculation says we are struggling to sign strikers and I haven't seen any striker arrive. It's all smoke and mirrors to fool us
Day 74 Bristol City will only do transfers on their terms says CEO Mark Ashton in message to Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham "By the time the window slams shut I am sure we will have done some more trading" https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...ws/mark-ashton-bristol-city-transfers-3113577 Mark Ashton playing tough again, I think he does that about once a year, so let that be a warning to all concerned.
Day 75 Bristol City and Charlton Athletic suffer blows in chase for Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah The Robins are keen to take him on loan https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...bristol-city-charlton-athletic-suffer-3116592 This is developing into a big soap opera.
Obviously we , or anyone, cannot take a player on loan if either the parent club or the player himself doesn’t want to go out on loan, the fact it’s not decided yet encourages me on the quality of the player, it does seem increasingly unlikely, but who knows which way this will go , it’s likely to be a last minute decision either way.
He got great reviews for his last game vs Fiorentina and I suspect he may stay at Arsenal and will only move if Emery thinks he needs more game time with another club to further his development. We need to keep looking if we are to bring in this mythical striker to make us possibly stronger up front.
Day 76 'Something I'll look at' - Arsenal striker offers hint over future after links with Bristol City and Charlton Athletic Unai Emery has already talked up the striker's first team prospects https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/something-ill-look-at-arsenal-3119127
2 more goals for Arsenal vs Fiorentina at the weekend will mean Emery has to think hard about what to do with Nketiah. Arsenal still seem linked with bringing in a 19 year old from Italy - surely a slap in the face for Nketiah.
You really have no idea how football works do you? Its entirely possible this loan won't happen however these promising youngsters spend preseason with the first team gaining experience and playing in friendlies whilst first team players are normally resting after an international summer. They are then sent out on loan in the final weeks of the transfer window once the Premiership squads are announced. For Instance Tammy Abraham joined us a day before the season started and last season he joined Villa on 31st August. Jay Dasilva joined us on 9th August and Kalas on 23rd August.
Unless the powers that be have the nod he will be coming then time is against them, the championship games start a week Saturday. How many seasons have gone by and city are scrabbling around for signings. Apart from Smoggy and Bentley the team is the same as last season and Nikki is more than adequate in goal just injury prone.
A decision will be made late by Arsenal, if he isn’t likely to get much , if any, game time with them they may decide it’s in his interest to be loaned to get it somewhere else, then of course they will decide which destination is best for the player. So whilst the odds aren’t great there’s no need to give up just yet.
Fully understand that BUT if they say he stays then city are up the creek without a paddle once the transfer window shuts on the 8th August. As said above if they have been told he will be available when on return from their tour then fine.
