I’m Not sure how you think the question should have been worded Rob. The process is set out by the EU not us. The referendum was to determine if we should invoke article 50, the EU wouldn’t even talk to us before that had been done , they then insisted they wouldn’t talk detail until both sides had agreed a framework, or roadmap if you like , which is the bit we’re stuck on at the moment. Once that’s agreed and only then will they talk details, before finally ratifying it at the end. That’s their process not ours, so we couldn’t have a referendum with the options set out as you would like at the beginning and never will be able to because the EU wouldn’t discuss details at the beginning.

They’ve deliberately made it difficult to stop country’s leaving, after Germany were the biggest economy in the EU, imagine how difficult it would be for one of the smaller nations.

Ok guys, honest impartial question; to get a quick Brexit, why don’t we just ignore the EU rules and start negotiating trade deals independently? The EU would presumably expel us - thus solving the issue - and getting us a head start on trade deals too - and no divorce bill either - win win all round.

 

I believe this is already happening deals are being struck.

 

most likely some rule that if we do our own trade deal then we would have to accept all their small bent banannas a lot of which come from common wealth countries ...

I don't know how it should have been worded - I'm not a lawyer and honestly it's not my job. But that doesn't mean I can't criticise the way it was done, and it is painfully obvious that it was flawed in pushing such a complex ask into a simple yes/no.

Well that I absolutely agree with. It's one of the things I don't like about the EU - it's clearly deliberately difficult to leave and staying in will inevitably make that more difficult. I just weighed up the risks of both sides when coming up with my opinion. Though having said that, the Ireland situation and the Good Friday Agreement make this particularly difficult for us - for other EU countries it wouldn't be quite so tricky.

Boris should he win will have to settle the ship somewhat, there are a few who are saving themselves red faces by going before the result is confirmed for definite !!! but one would suspect in the inner circles it is not a secret who has won . . . . . . .
stepping into a real cauldron as a new PM [ WHOEVER IT IS?] this Iran thing is quite serious and also Brexit … and this new LIB DEM leader trying to poach any tory or labour without an election ….believes she will be next PM … THATS 2 OF THEM NOW !!!!! In my 60 odd +years of understanding politics [ trying to! / voting ] this is the worst mess this country is in ever, politically !!!! but is actually economically better off than even when the country had a gold reserve and the oil was flowing more freely...
Come Friday we will have a new government, new cabinet at least `1 new problem and the ongoing saga of Brexit ….
