Good Morning. It's Friday 19th July, and here are the Leeds Utd headlines

James Chester rumour

According to several tabloids, Leeds are in talks with Aston Villa about the availability of James Chester. The 30yo centre back is surplus to requirements at Villa Park following the arrival of Tyrone Mings for 20m.
Dean Smith has already splashed 100m on players this Summer, and must be under some pressure to bring some revenue in.

Based on the fact that Leeds sold Jansson for 4m, supposedly for FFP reasons does this story hold any credence? Why wouldn't Leeds renew their interest in Aiden Flint, who appears to be off to Cardiff City for just 3m!

Whelan -'The owner has to take blame for this'

Noel Whelan has spoken out against Andrea Radrizzani about Roofe's unresolved contract.

“You don’t let your top scorer for the last two seasons run his contract down to the final year,”
“That needs looking at from Leeds. The way the club deal with contracts for players has to be changed.
“Leeds have left themselves unprotected with Roofe. The owner has to take the blame for this.
“Whoever deals with contracts on the board has to take responsibility.

“Roofe is probably worth £8-10m, but because he has only a year left on his contract, his value has dropped to £5million. That’s absolutely nothing these days. “That’s a drop in the ocean for Premier League clubs and even big Championship ones. “Leeds should have agreed a new contract with Roofe by last Christmas at the latest.”

Does our former hitman have a point? Why wasn't his contract extended last Christmas?

In other news...

Leeds are planning on capturing France Under-19 international defender Enzo Valentim.
The 18yo right back plays for for Reims II in the fourth tier of French football.

Samuel Saiz has gone. He's joined Spanish side Girona for an undisclosed fee believed to be 2.5m. (What would Jansson and Saiz have been worth 12 months ago)?

Alex Machuca and Oriol Rey are both off to Spain

Pawel Cibicki is on his way back to ER after Elfsborg tell Leeds they don't have any money!!!

Victor Orta has publically said that he is confident that Kalvin Phillips and Kemar Roofe will sign new contracts at Elland Road.

Morning all.

If true Chester would be a great signing

Whelan just needs to help sell papers to pay his mortgage, he wasn’t that great, he won’t go down in history as anything special, he wouldn’t make this championship team if he was playing at his peak.

To be honest he bores me with what he has to say

Morning all. Noel Whelan seems to me to love the Club and is paid to give his opinion. If you have to have been a great player to have a valid opinion where does that leave us lads?

We need a experienced leader-type CB who can organise our defence

Always impressed with Chester, seen him play several times

Proper CB, not a makeshift one
Morning Leon, yes, Chester would be a good signing.

Is he worth almost as much again as Jansson?

Jansson sold for 4m

Chester available for 7.5m

An extra 3.5m

Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

First off Whelan hasn't a clue about business so needs to STFU. Let me put it this way and see who you agree with more me or him: Last season we were odds on for promotion for months even right to the end of the season. Roofe was allowed to be kept hanging on because what would be the point of giving him a new contract until the situation with which league we would be playing in was resolved. Roofe would have been let go if we had won promotion as he isn't good enough for the prem, so all we would have done was waste money. That plan backfired though because we didn't get promoted but that's business and that's football.

If the Chester thing is real it can only be either because we have brought in over £20m in transfer fees these last few weeks with Danny Rose money to come. Or we have asked if we can loan with a view to buy which is our usual tactic.

22 players have moved on which is fantastic news for the wage bill and even Saiz was on £750k per year so we must be in a much stronger, healthier position now financially. There are still another 10 players to finalise which is an epic result if we manage it. Most of Europe closes the transfer window at the end of August so we still have time.

  1. Ekuban finalising a move to Turkey where we make another £500k profit.
  2. Ideguchi deal almost done where we make a further £500k profit.
  3. Anita deal fell through but Anita needs to buy himself out of his contract and we will subsidise part of his wages in Greece.
  4. LDB's agent has been told to find him a club probably in Belgium so ongoing.
  5. Sarkic may have already been released but need confirmation.
  6. O'Kane is now fully fit but where and when for him?
  7. Bouy who knows?
  8. Nessy was a favourite of Bielsa this time last season but lost his way during pre season followed by injury, so where next?
  9. Cibicki had a deal but Elfsborg wanted to get him for peanuts so leeds pulled the plug, new search under way.
  10. Pearce it would seem will be loaned out to Greek Supeleague champions, but a big move for the lad if he accepts?

Morning ristac,

At 7.5m, he should be almost twice the player of Jansson.

Morning WCD. Whelan is now employed as a LUFC journo in addition to his match commendatory.

His pieces as well as Danny Mills are used to fill voids when no t many stories are coming through.

“What I can tell you, and it’s quite amusing, I know Nigel Rose, Danny’s dad quite well”

“Tongue-in-cheek he got in touch with me today and said: ‘Jim I’d love for him to go back to Leeds United, the home of the beautiful game”.

“I’m not too sure that’s going to happen Nigel but you tickled me with that this morning.”

I agree with Whelan

You did ask

Ideally you sign the guy up or risk losing him for free/peanuts

If we go up and you don’t want him in the Prem, you sell him, for a sensible price because he has a decent length contract.

It’s not rocket science. On your basis you’d Never give anyone a contract who wasn’t good enough for the prem.... about 95% of them <laugh>

He didn’t get a contract because we were skint and we pulled contract talks with him... and others.

Also he was being greedy because we’d given Bamford a big salary but it was roofe that was playing and scoring. Flip side is, if the club think a player has an inflated idea of his worth then it’s up to them to say stuff it.

Milky not what I said because last season was a first for us. Normally the hope is promotion but reality soon kicks in, but last season was very very different because right up to Easter everyone including media were convinced we were auto placed for promotion. So last season was difficult doing any contract negotiations

Jansson sold for 4m

Jansson went cheaply, that fee could comeback to haunt should Pontus impress at Brentford, the bees are very shrewd in the transfer market, their scouts know PJ was a bargain purchase. He's an international player FFS unlike Cooper & Berardi who can't make it into their very poor nations squad.

Already we've witnessed how poor our likely lads are at the back

Contract negotiations were scheduled for last summer, they fell through last October... so whilst i understand where you’re coming from it’s not the reason... in any case as i said, if he’s on a contract he’s a more realisable asset if you need to sell.

The lack of contract might explain the gloomy face he had for the rest of the season and how bang average he was post injury... or it all might be coincidence<laugh>

He’s been getting sold for 50 million for that last 3 summers<laugh>

If we sell Jansson for 4.5 and buy Chester for 7.5... which we won’t imo... it tells you everything you need to know about why Jansson was flogged.

What do you know Milky...

Spill......the milk!! <whistle>

You're not wrong there, WJ could make it into the Scottish squad with a few less battered mars bars and a strict training regime...
