Looks like we have - as much as I like the lad, he isn't worth nowhere near that but he is better then what Man Utd have already got.

Rumours are that we have already agreed a £45m fee for Dunk which also overpriced but is what it is in todays market

£45m for Dunk is even worse. £20m at best.

There are plenty of reports backtracking on a desk being done. Certainly isn't according to Geoff.

    From John Percy

Leicester City are confident that Harry Maguire will be committed to the club next season should Manchester United, or any other interested party fail to reach the King Power valuation on the England international of more than £75 million.

The 26-year-old has trained well during the club’s first pre-season trip in France and has not shown any sign that he would try to force a move out of the club by downing tools. He is expected to be part of the matchday squad for a friendly against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park on Tuesday, and there has been no hint of him being disruptive among team-mates.

The current impasse is that United see the player as being worth between £50 million and £60 million – a valuation that Leicester feel is much too low especially given the £50 million fee that was paid by Old Trafford for the relatively inexperienced Aaron Wan-Bissaka. United know that they have to get the deal at a level of more than £75 million to get Leicester to the negotiating table but so far have chosen not go as high as that.

It is understood that Maguire would like a move to United, or Manchester City were they to come back into the bidding, but that he understands his club’s position and would not be a thorn in the side of Leicester were it not to happen. It simply requires United, or City, to improve their offer and that will be the defining factor - regardless of the enthusiasm of third parties to make the move happen.

Maguire signed a new deal with Leicester last season after the World Cup finals and has four years left to run on his current deal. He is playing a full part in Leicester’s pre-season programme which ramps up again this week with an intensive workload as well as Tuesday’s game and a second against Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

We need to tell Man U this is the price and you have a week to meet it or we will reject every bid you make regardless

We dont need this dragging on for weeks until the season starts

Always been a fan of this approach. For buying and selling. Just set a price and a deadline. Every bid below that adds £1m to the asking price for wasting our time and unsettling.

You have to stick to that approach without twitching for it to be effective. Makes it clear for everyone.

Mendy is a target for Saint-Etienne - Arsenal and Spurs are battling for one of their players so they will have a couple of quid rolling around.

****ing wont be if Arsenal are bidding for their player. Probably offer them a tea set, Mustafi and £50 on a payment plan

Apparently the player is 18yo William Saliba and they are saying it will be €30m+ - they are daft enough to blow their entire budget on one teenager just to stop Spurs from getting him.

    Ultimately,

    Ricardo
    Chilwell
    Maddison
    Tielemans
    Vardy

All far more key players than Maguire to us

Evans is much more valuable in a defensive sense (if only he was 3 years or so younger)

Ndidi is also arguably more important but maybe not as clear cut as the first 5.

    Schmeichel on a par?

In terms of value to the side, it’s only the two wing positions that can be said in certainty aren’t occupied by a player more valuable to us than Maguire. He is anywhere between 7-9 on that particular list.

The worries for me are wasting money replacing with bumped up prices and it being the 4th season we’ve sold a first team player (even though Drinkwater and Maguire both fit the category of ripping off the buying team).
Neither of those reasons apply to missing him on the pitch

We can’t pretend like we won’t miss him on the pitch and his defensive leadership. We’ll replace him with a good CB who is ultimately worse, hence why they are coming to us rather than to Manchester. However, you have to make sure your team is just as strong by using his loss to strengthen other areas of the pitch. Use him to get a top class right winger in and a solid CB and we will be fine id hope.

I think people are underestimating how important he is though from a sense of attacking from the pack when we are losing which allows us to push more people forward. Plus he wins absolutely everything in the air - corners and set pieces may now be a problem.

Of course we’ll miss him. My above post is more to post the question, how would you fancy our chances of replacing Vardy (god forbid when the time comes) or Tielemans or Maddison. Even the full backs although if Chilwell had gone Tierney would have been the obvious choice. He’s replaceable without weakening the overall team, in fact as you point out the team can be strengthened with the money. The likes of Vardy, Tielemans, Maddison and Ricardo, in my own opinion of course, are irreplaceable with players anywhere near their quality for a club at our level and of our standing

We ultimately replace Drinkwater with Tielemans

Tielemans is much much better then Drinkwater

I know but really Maguire is one (not THE before people jump on my back) of the leading CBs in world football currently. It’s more how he plays than his defensive ability - he is so unique in his play that it’s a style change

He isnt nowhere near one of the leading CB’s

He is a very good defender. No more no less. If De Ligt is worth £67.5M then Maguire about £40-45M

We are over charging as we dont want to sell, he is English, inflated market and Man U are desperate

Maguire isnt world class and to spend over £50M I would want a world class defender

Man U are miles away from agreeing a price £15-20M by the sounds of it

And according to Rob Dorsett we might not sign a replacement. Just use Morgan, Evans, Soyuncu and Benkovic
