What a day of sport! What a day. Hamilton (probably expected but F1 is not entirely an exact science), Djokovic on a fifth set tie break... and THIS! From a wide, a misfield, a six, and a run out at the end. Unbelievable!

This whole world cup has come down to one ball in the end, and a countback of boundaries. You have to feel for NZ who no one would have fancied at the start of the tournament.

    Wow !

What a game and congratulations England .

Wonderful final and Stokes/Archer were immense under pressure.

    Well played NZ too .

    Credit to the game !

I watched one over earlier on when Archer kept on bowling bouncers for wides and Mrs Fez turned straight back over so as not to jinx (not superstitious except for sport <whistle>)... watched the last over for the tie to see Archer play across the line... then we collectively groaned when Archer was chosen to bowl... then the wide... "I'll turn it over again" she says... "we need to be brave" says I.

Crikey! Really bad luck on New Zealand with the four over throws, nothing you can do about that. England wrestled the win. Somehow.<applause><applause><applause>

Its in India - so probably won't suit either team sadly.

Lets hope the Ashes is played in the same spirit.

I watched the whole game, a classic cricket game with no one on top really and hard work for the players, it really ebbed an flowed. NZ would have won but for the overthrows and I must say I thought it should be dead ball if it hits a batsman. So cruel.
It's hard for an Englishman to say this but I thought NZ should have won but luck was not with them. Stokes was immense. Both teams played really well in all departments.
As many of you have said I could not believe what I was watching, you really could not make it up. I hope this boosts England & Wales cricket.
Credit to Sky for allowing Ch4 (and me) to watch the game live, good publicity stunt for them and great for cricket. Sky et al really don't do sport a service restricting it to a small audience that can pay.
    Anyone for Netball?

Hope NZ Horn isn't too downcast - if he isn't an Englishman living there!?

I do hope that we never get to the point with every football game there has to be a winner. I don't know if it still happens but in the USA, soccer as they call it, used to be played until there was a winner. The concept of a draw was unknown there at the time that the game was trying to get a foothold in the country.

Not too downhearted Mark. Was truely amazing. i thought we had wone it by taking more wickets but thems not the rules.
As for who to support I am very relaxed except when it comes to the All Blacks, who I hope lose to the Nicaraguan over 40s reserve rugby team. At a pinch I would probably want the All Whites to beat England at football, but that will never happen..

Tbf wickets used to decide matches so it's a new rule I think .

I think the rules do need another look.. And why on earth can't we have joint winners? Like Scully I do feel very sorry for NZ. They bowled very cannily.
The good sportsmanship was refreshing.. Mind you I will be amazed if we get the same with the ashes.
Still in shock after the day.. I very rarely get a day of wall to wall cricket and it was one of the best.. Ever

Aussie saying we got an extra run which wasn't allowed .

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport

Well I am not sure New Zealand winning would have been any better for them!

  20. I'd be more interested in Henry nicholls' comments which sum up the general attitude of the New Zealand camp. A lesson in losing with dignity and class which many could learn from.
