Evans was our best ‘defender’ last season and even Morgan is a better defender than Maguire. Maguire’s value comes in his ball playing abilities which will be missed but from a defensive point of view we could replace him internally as we planned for it last summer. It’s also crazy money for him. I’m not fussed about him going as such, more that we need to have a summer without selling a first team player (albeit Drinkwater was a case or flogging him and ripping Chelsea off as this would be with Man U).
If he does go for this money I just hope we don’t waste a good half of it on an average replacement we don’t need and splash out on a class winger to go with the big money signings of Tielemans and Perez

I didn’t say better player, course I’d rather have Maguire. Think you Miss understand what I mean by defending! Plus Morgan is on the way out, age is against him and Evans. Point being, Maguire is a bang average defender and makes lots of mistakes but makes up for it with his contributions playing out from the back

 

No you didn't John ... and you are quite correct in your assertion. Wes is actually a better defender, but is now too old. Harry started out as a central midfielder before converting and he is undoubtedly a better footballer.

You may need to keep things quite literal and, for a couple, quite simplistic
