Yeah I think a lot depends on what you do with the potential £70m. As I just said to HIAG, replacing him might be tougher than expected because other defender's prices will go up as their clubs will know you've got the dough.

 

Dunk won't be much cheaper either I'd imagine, came through Brighton's academy so can't see them letting him go easy.

Been quoted £40 m apparently ... so we'd likely end up with a net profit of between £15 and £20 m ... so equivalent to Atsenal's whole transfer budget

 

Thing is we have 5 full international centre backs as well as Maguire .. so we are better placed than most clubs .. Brenda might well be happy to pair Jonny Evans with either Filip Benkovic (my preference) or Caglar Soyuncu ..

 

If they're decent enough then you'd probably be better off waiting to buy a cb.

Use the rest towards buying Duffy. I know you've got Evans but Dunk and Duffy are a really solid partnership and have been bailing Brighton out for too long, arguably one of the best pound for pound pairings in the league.

Soyuncu looks gash though, if he were any good he'd have played more than a handful of games last season. Benkovic is unproven at this level, huge risk choosing to use him to replace your best defender.

 

I agree... Benkovic seems an excellent prospect ... Soyuncu was an Arsenal target until we nicked him from under their noses... Big Wes can do a job (as a last resort now) ... Jonny Evans was looking very good towards the end of the season and Daniel Amartey has just resumed training after a bad injury ... but he was in the last AFCON team of the tournament as a CB.

Benkovic is extremely error prone from what I've seen. Not sure what fossy is basing this off other than a few pissed up Scots.

 

The biggest issue you'll have with your defence will be Brenda tbh, so no point spending stupid money there.

That's the thing, easy to say "he's been the best in SPL since van Dijk" but I could be the best in the SPL since van Dijk. Maguire ain't just Leicester's best CB, he's one of the best in the Prem, massive, massive risk putting faith in Benkovic to replace that level of player so early on. Ease the lad in, especially as Evans ain't getting younger but a direct replacement from the off is unwise in my opinion.
