Hello Arsenal fans - Shrewsbury fan here in peace, We are all looking forward to the game on the 20th. We have sold 3000+ tickets so we should have a good following. I have the greatest of respect for your club and your manager, who in my opinion is the person most responsible for improving the standard of football played in this country over the last decade or so. You will probably not know much about us but, after a slow start, we have won our last five games. We are one of the increasing number of teams in the lower leagues who try to play a passing game so do not expect hoofball from us. We have a couple of men up front in Marvin Morgan and Lionel Ainsworth who might cause you a few problems (they certainly did for Derby and Swansea in our two Carling Cup games). We are looking forward to showing you that we can play a bit and, if you field a very weakened side, who knows we might be able to get some sort of result. Swansea made that mistake and while I know you are a much classier side than them it was cerainly our easiest game of the year so far. It should be a great night!
on present form the arsenal are no classier than swansea. they remain amongst the flotsam and jetsam of the premier league. i suspect they will not be in that bargain basement long, but they have to lift their game and soon if they are to become a class act again. at present they are no better than the wigans boltons and other lesser mortals holding up the league
Atcham, I am sure the Arsenal fans will have plenty to say about your post (which I hope is meant to be in your normal tongue-in-cheek style) but, as the saying goes, form is temporary but class is permanent and before long Arsenal will be up there challenging for the Champions League places again. Even though Swansea only played probably two first choice players against us they were very disappointing and the fact that none of their players has scored a goal yet does tell you something about the uphill battle they face this season
I think you guys need to talk to atcham more, he seems to get very lonely. As for the match Wenger is generally very good at beating lower league teams in the domestic cups and I think we will have too much for you.
AJ's become quite a welcome regular on the Gooners board and almost single-handedly flying the flag for Salopia until the coming of Mr Greenhousemeadow I do hope you're right about Arsene's intentions in the Carling this month Robin. I have several friends in Salopia and would like to continue visiting England's green and pleasant land with my head held high
greenhous, i speak as i find, you know me, if the arsenal are having a sh*te season i will say so. and if they are playing cr*p football, again i will say so. on the strength of their results so far town will mamalise the arsenal 3-1. there you are then, i cannot tone down what has been evident for all to see
Atcham, I hope very much you are right and I will be there among the faithful shouting myself hoarse but I fear robin-van-fibreglass (great name, by the way) will be correct and Arsenal will be too good for us. If that does prove to be the case then I hope we go out playing the right way and show the Premier League fans that decent football is alive and well in League 2.
If you are going prepare for a complete lack of atmosphere, CC games are completely dead usually. Heres hoping for a good game
I imagine a 2nd-string lineup will be played. I'm hoping even so, that Squillaci doesn't feature. He's officially injured right now, so I'd imagine: Fabianski Jenkinson Djourou Koscielny Gibbs/Santos Frimpong/Coquelin Miyaichi/Oxo Park/Chamakh Arshavin Rather than use it to give the youngsters game time, I'm hoping Wenger will use it to keep the squad sharp.
In all seriousness, this is the time for any non top-flight side to play Arsenal, as you have a very good chance of causing an upset. Anyone remember Northampton Town trouncing LFC at Anfield last season? Personally, I believe that Wenger's first team will still be too strong for you, but as I suspect he'll use this game to rest key players (well, those that aren't already injured), it's a game that I'm sure your lads will be up for.
Chances rest on the Arsenal performance against Blackburn. If they get a win, confidence will be high going into the Shrewsbury game, the "crisis" will be fully over. If they lose, badly, then the confidence could go again. Only then do I see Shrewsbury having a serious chance, as the jitters will be out in force. In all likelyhood however, Arsenal should get through this with no problems and their second string out.
it has been great fun having banter with friendy gooner supporters, we know we are well out of our league, but i suggest both teams continue to practice penalty taking in case, we may put a lesser team out especially if our internationals are saved for the torquay game! is the game on telly anyone know if sky or elsewhere. well it has been a lot of fun, can you win at blackburn? floriat salopia, come on you shrews, breath on em. amwythig am byth, oh and if i was arsene i would wave a cheque for 10million under the chelsea managers nose for that carthorse torres
i do not know the origin of this saying but a book was written about the shrews and the title was breath on 'em shrews- good isn't it
