I can understand selling Roofe in one way because it’s better than losing him for nothing, especially if we don’t go up. If his wage demands are as high as the rumours suggest, then I think we have to be pragmatic as they are fairly high for the Championship. If we do go up, I don’t think he’s quite good enough for the Premier league. Fingers crossed the club have an ace up their sleeve if it comes to replacing Roofe. Hopefully Bamford will adapt to the system a bit better this year too.
Good news is Kiko was expecting to be in the prem by now (and we might have been if we hadn’t picked him!), and wants to leave. Bad news is, who is going to pay him that? Can see a Robbie fowler type loan deal, where ho goes back to la liga and we pay £30k a week of his wages for the next 3 1/2 years! Roofe made his wage demands when he heard what bamford was getting. Understandable really. As to whether its sustainable? I’ve never been totally sold on Roofe... he did well last year before his injuries - but i kind of thought most strikers would have relished being in that team at that time. He’s good but don’t see him as irreplaceable. Whether we would replace him with better is another question.
And no loss. I’ve seen him not smile at times while playing and suspect he was therefore a disruptive influence. How dare he look for a pay rise. Nobody’s bigger than the team. Should be happy to play for free. Anyway we’ll buy far better with the 2m we get for him. Did I leave anything out
Err Chris Wood 2 seasons ago, Viera last season (it can be argued if that was decent or not), McContract altho that was a few seasons ago. It can also be argued that 11m for someone who has played 800 minutes of football is a decent price , especially when Adams and James, just being a couple of more years older, but with vastly more experience only cost £4-5m more than Clarke. I agree that we have a habit of selling players some what cheaply, stemming from when the tax exile was milking us for every penny , but when you look at Sam Byram, who could now say that 4.8m was a bargain price for West Ham. Howson, Snodgrass, Gradel were all sold off cheaply and I'm sure there are many others than we can all name too, but to say we never get a decent price is harsh
Fair enough. I asked the question and you've filled in with some good sales. On the other hand you've confirmed my descent into senility is gathering pace
That said, we just sold an International defender experienced in the championship for £4 million plus add ons (I'll be ****ing fuming if we pay those because they get promoted and we don't) and they've just sold a player that hasn't played 1st team football for £12 million. Think we need to transfer in the negotiators
