I'm not saying Newcastle is a ****hole but it's not magnificent by any standards.

I find it a bit irritating to be honest. There's plenty round where I live who seem to think that the NE is just wall to wall pit villages and slag heaps but I also come across of plenty of northeasterners who seem to want to perpetuate that myth. I know I don't live there any more but I think it's a great place and equal (but different) to anywhere else in the country.

I love the NE but I'm a realist who couldn't work in the NE because there just isn't the wealth.

    No idea what you do.

Well, this is where you have to box a bit clever, innit? You have to play on your selling points. Like I say, it won't be everyone's cup of tea but there will be people out there to whom what the NE has to offer would be paradise. Who knows, Messi might like a bit of huntin', shootin' and fishin' and there is, for example, plenty of that to be had in the NE. There's horse racing and racing stables in the area. And these are just the things off the top of my head. All of them are appealing to the mega rich.

Beg to differ on that mate. I live here, look at my window and see endless listed buildings, and a bustling riverside (with Yachts).

I stroll along and see buskers, many different cultures, walk past Michelin star restaurants then up the street voted ‘the most beautiful in Britain’.

I sit outside a bar seeing a city that is constantly alive, I see top end cars, I see happy kids and faces and my property value has gone up 60% in 4 years.

I’m 10 minutes from the beautiful coastal area of Tynemouth, 15 from the stunning Northumberland countryside.

I’ve shopping to rival anywhere bar London, every other week there’s some kind of street carnival or food festival, and there’s world class events and acts constantly at multiple arenas in the city.

Yes, there’s the flip side, but there’s a flip side in every manor in the land. Drive 5 minutes out the back of Royal Leamington Spa high street and see what you see.

It is magnificent, I’ve lived in various places and countries, and this city has everything.

I say all this as a proud Mackem, who was raised in Seaburn to parents from Hendon and Hylton Castle.

I’d agree with that to an extent. There are jobs that pay, but they are incredibly limited, that’s undeniable.

The yachts are small fry, the cars aren't 'top end' and there aren't Michelin starred restaurants, plural ... as far as I know.

Besides, listed buildings, buskers and walking down a street may be nice for me and you but I'm talking about the mega rich and their wives.

I love Newcastle, and the NE, but its not me I'm talking about.

The wealth is maybe less concentrated in the NE than it is in Surrey, the south coast, certain parts of London but there are undeniably a decent number of billionaires and multi-millionaires that own land/property in the NE. It's a less populous area so the number of very wealthy people is going to differ from some of these other places.

They may own property but very few choose to live there and for good reason.

How many billionaires do you think there are in Newcastle as an example, I'd be surprised if there's any tbh.

The cars are absolutely top end. If you walk down Grey Street on any given day (that’s we’re there are import companies etc in the private offices, without flashy signs), you’ll see Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls, Porsche. Any given hour of any given day.

I’m not suggesting it’s a millionaires playground but it’s on par with the vast majority of the UK for what it has to offer.

It also has a boisterous property market and a huge amount of investment opportunities, absolutely boxes ticked for the wealthy.

I doubt there’s any billionaires living here, but that was never my point.

I'm not talking about the wealthy mate, all cities have wealthy people.

I'm talking about someone with £500 million to splash out on a footy club.

A decent Newcastle property market won't attract people who'll happily pay £5 million for a London flat for a mistress.

I wouldn't think there are many in Newcastle. If was a billionaire I wouldn't live in Newcastle, I'd live in my country pile surrounded by my massive estate. But this is my point, as I've said, there are things in the wider NE that clearly do appeal to billionaires (otherwise all those city bankers etc wouldn't have shooting estates) and anyone with any sense would use these as hooks to reel in investors.

Agreed on that, my only point though was that I stand by it being a magnificent city. I really do stand by that.

I live in the Surrey Hills and it's rather nice. Love the NE, but the weather's not so good.

That's all fine mate but they fly in for a weekend, shoot a few birds and leave.

Sorry but that's all it means to them.

    No problem with that mate.

But what you see as magnificent is just another Leeds or Middlesbrough to people with a different outlook.

Exactly. But most estates operate two days shooting a week during the season, which broadly coincides with the start of the football season. Say they shoot Thursday and Friday, our boy can stay on with his mates to watch the football team he's bought on a Saturday, can't he? And then his interest in the area snowballs from there. That's how we/someone/anyone should be thinking about this ****.

It's a lovely thought mate but, in all honesty, as far from reality as Sunderland are from winning the Champions League and World Cup double.

The super-rich don't want or need anyone to tell them what to think or do.

Our way of looking at things is regarded as quaint and naive. I gave up making suggestions years ago because I could see it was making me look daft.

I rarely post specifics on here but this is typical.

I'm working for a Russian oligarch on the Cap d'Antibes and his wife, Miss Croatia, flies in for one night. She'd arrived at Nice in the private jet and on to us in the company helicopter. Me and Mrs Smug welcome her and get her into the house where a Michelin starred chef has prepared a fabulous meal. She declines it having had another chef feed her on the plane. Her bags are brought in and unpacked by the 'clothes maid' whereupon it's found that madam's slippers have been left in Milan where she's been attending the fashion shows. I'm summoned and asked to organise the pilot flying back to collect them, it's 9pm and she's leaving for a meeting in Monaco at 11am the next day!

I tell her I know the manager of the Chanel store in Cannes who'll open the shop, find an identical pair and have them sent by courier within the hour.

No, she has to have hers so I have to send the plane back to Milan and have her slippers brought to the villa. Of course she's asleep when they arrive and she's gone before breakfast the next day.

That kind of thing was a daily occurrence for four years mate, excess upon excess.

People like that wouldn't know where the NE was, everything north of Watford is Scotland in their eyes.

Seems that they contacted Sam Allardyce’s agent to ask if he wanted the job!!! I’m pretty sure Ashley hates them.

By the way, that is not made up news, it’s directly from Sam this TalkSport!

    He turned it down

I was sent a text telling me to tune in as I wouldn't believe what I was hearing.

Allardyce, who's been out of work for a year and wants to get back to the PL, turned them down!

Then 'a Toons fan' comes on with what he obviously believes is a smoking gun with Ashley's fingerprints. He tells Allardyce that he doesn't know how the club's being run ... this is a man, on the inside, having just made a decision about managing the club. But 'Toony' thinks he knows best.

He announces, as if it's breaking news that only true Newcastle supporters could know, that Ashley promised Benitez 'all the money generated' for transfers.

He obviously believes this is a criminal offence and he's caught Ashley red handed ... you could almost hear Allardyce sniggering. He infers that Ashley changes his mind, about things, like anyone else and is entitled to do that depending on current finances, interest in the club, etc.

The supporters are just the same, they can switch between a walk in/walk out/funeral march/boycott/wego/we stay.

Our hero then goes on to explain that Ashley has no ambition ... well what a ****ing surprise seeing as he's publicly declared he wants shot of the club <laugh>

Ashley has already stated that he wants out and has paid substantial fees to agents and solicitors to negotiate with Stavely/Kenyon/Shakey. Why would he then want to throw millions at the club in the hope of a top half finish.

If NUFC was the golden goose the supporters firmly believe it to be there would've been a queue of buyers desperate to buy. There isn't but Ashley is even blamed for that. The Toons automatically search for the 'real reason' and decide people won't buy the club because Ashley doesn't really want to sell ... or that he's insisting on a clause to have Sports Direct signs up for eternity.

All in all its great fun for the casual onlooker, they're now asking for the PL to be asked to intervene and force Ashley to spend more ... top class entertainment these lads.

This petition is good for a laugh if you ignore the terrible grammar ....
