Typical England defeat - beaten by the better side with the odd moment of bad luck or self inflicted pain .

Offside was unlucky but did think the penalty was a bit soft - didn't matter the end .

Yes just failed against a good side.. Agree re offside and the penalty. and at this level you must take every chance.. Another familiar England outcome!

What this has shown is that there is an interest in Womens football. The BBC that is cash strapped took it on as a means of having some sport to show, and it has really paid off for them. It was good to hear the reaction of some, that it will show girls that they can make a successful career from playing the game, but not so good in some ways that the governing body is thinking straight away about how much money they can rake in now.

.. And interesting to read some of the negative reviews on football forums from some men.. You just can't compare pl football with the current women's game.. Mind you that striker would be more of a Success at Watford methinks

Bottom line is that you cannot compare the physical attributes between the men's game and the women's: that's just a biological fact of life. I've officiated on the WPL back in the day, well impressed with the ball skills and tactics as well as their commitment. Physically I would expect at least a half decent U16 side give them a real test. For me it's a different game altogether and women's football should be judged on its merits not held up in comparison: that's not fair.

    I agree totally.

Thought England were unlucky in the second half as they really gave the USA a game and had luck been on our side we would have won 3-2.
Annoyingly we could have beaten the Dutch in the final.
Girls gave it everything and can walk away proud.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed the matches I saw and quality was excellent. The best team won but it is getting harder for them which is good. Credit to the Dutch, they did not give up and went all out attack and got away with it. Their goalie was excellent and she is looking for a team, how about it Watford? I first watched women's football at the London Olympics (they played matches in Scotland) and saw the USA and France play and was impressed and entertained 7 years ago.

It is slightly galling that the USA are world women's football champions for the 4th time when their national sports are a form of rounders and wrestling with padded suits on which they strangely call "football"! :emoticon-0100-smile

"Soccer" has always been predominantly a girls game in the US which it probably why they dominate. The boys tend to get drafted into baseball, basketball, "football" and ice hockey as you've suggested.

Perhaps the girls are more enlightened in the US?

i watched some games. I am not a sexist, but honestly, I couldn't enjoy it. Comparing it to the men's game was my mistake and I should have accepted it for what is was but it was hard to do.

Good on the Yanks for winning it mind, I liked the "tea" celebration too! ;)
