Anything by Hendrix really - you only need a few bars to know it’s him, and that’s after 4 decades of imitators, not one of whom came close despite all the advantages of evolving technology. I don’t normally go in for GOAT type hyperbole, but Jimi was out there on his own, a one off...
Without a doubt the best guitarist ever imo. What sets him apart from all the other greats was how effortless he made those difficult notes look, and no cheating. So difficult to do what he did and it was just raw talent. Proper stone as well. One story goes when he came to play Top of the Pops they were searching for him and he was trying to find a block of hash lost he'd lost in the pipework somewhere
Very interesting point you make about Hendrix. One thing that used to interest me in music was different styles when playing aside from the norm - I use to question why people made so many finger movements when things could be applied with short cuts with exactly the same affect, enhancing the sound because of the swiftness this enabled change on the fret board. Especially if you're a miniscule of a second behind, because I would notice and it irritated the fook out of me - OCD. A simple example being the use of the fret neck thumb to anchor notes, it was then that the style of Jimmi Hedrix was brought to my attention, so simple, but so overlooked by many. The problem with music theory it was always over complicated, and Hendrix just threw the rule book out the window with his own style.
Hendrix utilised that technique off the back of him playing a right handed guitar left handed. So he had to play it upside down and damp the top strings.
