Puts a whole new perspective on the issues surrounding the much maligned Tomlin. Very good article that explains a lot and just shows how much is going on behind he scenes that we don't know about. Puts Warnock, Bellamy and the club as a whole on very solid social grounds too - well done. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...s-Lee-Tomlin-opens-mental-health-torment.html
A sobering read. I'm sure many of us have dark days and minor demons lurking beneath the surface, but this seems a whole different level. Respect to all who have helped him get straight. A lot of managers / clubs would have just passed the problem on. Whatever people say about Colin, and I' sure he can ball people out, he does seem to have a compassionate side. Respect also to Tomlin for being man enough to speak about it. A brave step. If Tomlin does have his head straight, he will have saved us a few bob for a new signing. Lets see what pre-season brings.
The harsh reality is we have Reid and Patterson who will be preferred in the 10 role. We wont be buying anyone for that position.
Never considered mental issues, just looked like he couldn’t give a fug TBH! On the subject of mental health, Masky thinks a few people on here could do with a chat...stands out like a sore todger! Remember don’t hold it back, talk to me!
I'll despair if Warnock plays Paterson as a No.10. He's no playmaker like Tomlin (if he's right).Troublemaker up front is his role, not creating. I don't see Reid as a No.10 - far better suited to the "fox in the box" role than creating. He can get on the end of things like no one else we've got at the club at the moment - if he was bloody used !!
If tomlin is fit and firing, leaving Ken aside for a minute, with Tomlin, Murphy (who said he committed to Cardiff), Reid, NML and Junior, there's enough in there to worry the opposition. Its finding the formation, the combinations and the impact off the bench that will be the trick for colin. Nice problem to have.
Reality - Patterson is going to be 1st choice for 90% of games. That will be no.10 wide right or out and out striker. Warnock loves him. Hes a winner and the opposition will hate playing against him. Hes miles ahead of Tomlin as far as selection goes. Reid isnt going to be a fox in the box. That will mean 442. Thats not happening unless Dave Jones comes back. Patterson at 10 isnt a play maker its to win headers , battle and grab goals. Its not pretty but will be too much for weak opponents playing tippy tappy football.
If colin sticks with his preferred 433, i can see ralls, vaulks and tomlin being the cm 3. Comes down to the front 3 then. Would prefer a 4231 (i know, i know). Ralls and vaulks in front of the back 4. Then its who are the front 4. Whichever way, it's still a long season and a squad game. Id take a fit tomlin as part of the squad.
I've no doubt Warnock will want to repeat that, but FFS we need to start playing more than one way in these games, even in the Championship let alone the Prem last year. I suppose you could claim it wouldn't matter if we achieved the result of of two seasons back, but at some point we've got to progress our playing style. Variation is the key, not just "same again guys" - will (can?) Warnock do it?
I dont think we play one way. We do mix it up. We just need to work on keeping possession better. A lot better.
You need the tools to mix it up. Either we haven't got them or we've got them and not using them. That could be through choice or tactics. You're dead right about possession though. Once again that's down to two things - coaching and the right players. The number of times we played differently from our usual pattern since Warnock has been with us you could count on one hand. It produced results in our promo season but was a total ****fest last year. Not for a minute knocking the bloke - he's been a Godsend and turned the club around. Just happen to think there's more to be got out of what we've already got. I will say if we do get a Farmer Jayjou type of player to front it, then Bobby Reid could be another Chopra. Hints of the DJ era?
.......Why - don't you want to win as many as you lose? Remember the very last City League away game I went to down down in Plymouth with DJ - must be over 10 years ago now. We were leading 3-0 after an hour and coasting it - I think Chopra got a couple. Then they got one back and we scored 2 own goals from Super Kev and Purse to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. To cap it all, Tony Capaldi was playing for them that day and then DJ signed him......
