Just watched the documentary 'The central park five' and it's excellent ,wouldn't say it's anymore shocking than the drama.Having seen drama first think they done an excellent job of keeping it close to the facts as laid out in documentary.
Anyone been watching the current season of FTWD? I'm waiting until it's finished to binge watch it, just wondered if it's been decent
Finished This is England, it's right up there with the best TV ever. If you haven't ever got round to it you really should. 9.9/10
Atomic Blonde 7/10 If it was shorter the ratings would have been higher as it takes too long to get going and with no real reason to drag out a pretty thin story.
Not imo. Don't get me wrong its excellent, but its more of an 8 for me. Frankly I think they over stretched it so the story line feel a little repeated. Also some of the acting is poor and wooden which detracts from the 'natural' style Meadows tries for, its very hard to do this anyway.
Funny how people see things differently, I think the acting is such a highlight of the show with some superb performances from pretty much every main character and even some of the minor ones. See the table scene when Lol confesses for details, 15 minutes long and so very good. I didn't think the story was stretched either as it moved on to the younger people of the group in series 4. It's only 11 episodes in total plus the film. Each to their own I suppose but to me it's a masterpiece.
I just feel the hyper-real affect just makes it seem less real. The Dialogue just doesn't seem natural, its like people thinking to themselves what would I say in this situation rather than just saying what someone would really say. And as mentioned I don't think many of the actors are really that good. Turgoose for me isn't a great actor. McClure, Gilgun and Graham are the star turns who really drag the others with them. The Film is well worth a 9, the series less so, 8ish for me. Also just for info (from IMDB) This is England: 7.7 '86: 8.3 '88: 8.3 90: 8.5 So, seems the general consensus is 8ish. . Just sayin...
It's a favourite of mine so I may well be biased, funny how the series outscores the film. I agree on Turgoose he's got worse as he's got older but even though he's not a great actor he plays the role well. Chanel Cresswell is also very good though as is Johnny Harris so that's a fair list of great performances. I disagree on the dialogue I think it suits the show and it's clearly open to the cast being able to improvise at times.
