Could this be connected to Saints putting a real effort into women's football now...can see that given the opportunity I'd rather be attached to a big club than another local club. Better facilities, training and support.
Perez had an excellent end of the season. But up until about Christmas last year, his entire Newcastle career had been very 'meh'. I wouldn't have been interested in him, and I couldn't have seen him moving somewhere for in excess of £10m. As I see it, Leicester are gambling that his last six months are his norm now, rather than just a purple patch. A big gamble in my book.

Yep, exactly. But women's football could have been different. Instead the FA have not learnt from any of the mistakes of the men's game and have decided to turn women's football into a pale imitation of the men's game, and if I wanted to watch teams buying league titles with other the rest just making up the numbers, I'd just watch the Premier League.
But women have the right to be in teams with money to spend on them and others...to be professional and make a living from the game. Gifted girls can now concentrate on developing their skills and not have to hold down a second job. The only way this is possible is to get attached to clubs who can subsidise them....we all know what a struggle it is for small clubs (male and female) to balance the books. Don't think we should deny them this opportunity just for some glorified amateur ideal.

It's nothing to do with a glorified amateur ideal, I have nothing against professionalism in women's football but my issues are with the lack of sustainability in the development of women's football. If it was sustainable, why would so many clubs be in financial problems? Even Yeovil in the top tier went into administration. The FA seem hell bent on fast tracking women's football with little consideration as to whether its sustainable or the wider impact of fast tracking women's football rather than sensible, sustainable and steady progress. It's like running a marathon without having done any training. You can't just wave your wand and create a healthy league structure just because a few clubs have a wealth of riches.
The Premier League are apparently discussing taking over responsibility for women's football from the FA.
I'm not sure whether that would be better or worse for us non elite clubs. I suppose a lot of it depends whether the PL would take over responsibility of the top tier only or the entire pyramid
