Does anyone play in midfield in women's football? They just seem to bypass it all the time. And on that note, do they understand that defending involves getting close to the player likely to receive the ball and/or trying to get to the ball first? At the risk of being called sexist, misogynistic or whatever knee jerk insult people might want to throw at me, it's poor by any standards. Very poor.
This is the first game I’ve watched in full from this World Cup. The US look like they have some more capable footballers and just look stronger and quicker to every ball. England look like they have one or two players though, Lucy Bronze in particular. But it’s easy to see why the US are considered one of the teams a cut above the rest.
How do England expect to make a breakthrough in this match? They've created nothing in the second half. Phil Neville seems to be hoping that copying Southgate's look will drag him through.
It's been a bit like Spain/Barca in those years where they just have an overwhelming technical quality. They keep talking about physicality in commentary but it just looks like crisper passing, more control and taking risks higher up the pitch. Reminds me a bit of the Utd-Barca final where Fergie's side were just pulled to pieces. That said, we've still had 2 great chances and finished them both(albeit one got VARed). We need to Paris involved more in dangerous areas though, too much emphasis on the Bronze overlap throughout the tournament from us.
Fair enough tbh. Didn't think it was a pen, defender left space and it was a big backlift from White that caused the contact. We're in VAR overanalysis though where refs will often get caught up in the slow-mo rather than the real picture.
