Good signing, good price - although we're already well covered in the position he plays. <ok>

Bored with the lack of news, I had a look at the Pinkun Board and found this from a usually sound member:

"Charlie Gilmour was at Colney in the week having tests, heard he has already signed and will be with the U23s initially, possibly being loaned out for this coming season. The club are waiting to announce that presumably this week. Will be an excellent signing with the potential to be a first team player in the not too distant future. Also we are still working hard to finalise a deal for Aidan Fitzpatrick from Partick Thistle hopefully also this week."

I'll be very pleased if we sign Gilmour, a DM who also has AM skills with two good feet. He won't have an immediate impact but might be an option as the season goes on and injuries occur. Definitely one for the future though. Fitzpatrick would also be a good signing, though with Roberts and Drmic signed we're pretty well covered in the wide positions now. If Drmic is going to play out wide initially though, I'll feel better if we get Rhodes in.

Happy for Che Adams to get his big chance in the Premiership with Southampton. Class prospect.

Villa continue spending at pace. Targett from Southampton.

Welcome to the young lad from Belgium but I would like to see some significant amount of money spent on the first team to help strengthen our chances of staying up in the Premier league this season. I do not want to have to wait another season or 2 before I see the players we are signing in the first team

So far we've signed 5 players whose costs are probably covered by the £450k we got for Franke and the wage savings on him and those of the other 5 leaving, including Naismith. With Drmic and Roberts the first team is already stronger and we still have most of the £20m budget intact.

Charlie Gilmour, ex Arsenal DM on a free, is said to be near completion and at 20 he wouldn't be far away from the first team. Rocky Bushiri, CB, is another rumoured to be close and though only 18, he has been playing in the top Belgian league. Rhodes is available for offers and Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann may be another Bundesliga player coming in. Those four, plus a quality RB could all be done within the budget left, which would leave us a lot stronger overall.

I'm pretty sure Man Utd fans thought the arrival of Alexis Sanchez for "a significant amount of money" was going to "strengthen their first team"! If last season has taught us anything, it is surely that you can strengthen the first team beyond recognition without spending "significant amounts of money". I know people will say "But this is the Premier League we're talking about, it's different". That's exactly what they were saying last summer about the Championship. Posters keep repeating they trust Webber and Farke -- as a footnote to posts displaying little trust at all! I really do trust them.

When the 'Dynamic Duo' (aka SW & DF) arrived to take the helm at NR1, they said that they would need 3 or 4 Transfer Windows to assemble the team they wanted and they were spot on.
IMO (and I'm sure the vast majority of NCFC fans) don't want to see too many changes to the first team squad and I see the recruitment of players for the Under 23s as a bit of an 'insurance policy', in that IF we don't survive in the PL next season, most of the current first team squad will be moving on.
Our Under 23s last season were pretty terrible, but when you consider that Lewis, Aarons and Godfrey became first team regulars, it's easy to see why.
PS - I had my own 'insurance policy' last season in that I booked a room at the Watford Premier Inn in January for the night of May 27th, in case we were in the play-off final !! <laugh>

Krovinovic to WBA is getting reported more widely now, looks like that's another rumour going nowhere fast.

I think that assessment is probably pretty accurate Rick. Adshead, Bushiri and Gilmour look like they would probably get a loan for a season, with the hope that 1 or 2 of them are ready for a championship promotion push the season after. The other youngsters are probably further off.

In terms of first team impact, obviously we have Drmic and Roberts, and then who knows? The Turnbull and Krovinovic interest indicates another attacking player maybe? My wishlist would also be for a full back and DM too. That would leave us pretty heavy on midfielders though.

Given that Drmic can also play at WL or WR I'm not sure that we need another attacking player, though winger Aidan
Fitzpatrick from Partick Thistle seems a pretty solid rumour. My main wish would be for Rhodes and a RB as well.

Fulham threw £100m at their attempt to remain at the top table - and we all know and saw how that unfolded.
Who's to say SW and DF's approach can't and won't be more successful - at least it won't cripple the club financially for the foreseeable future, which as a club looking to exist / survive / flourish without external investment is the only realistic way NCFC can go about things - and hey, if it ain't broke..... ;)

    (As in Vrancic, £650k
    Zimmermann - Free
    Trybull - Free
    Leitner £1.3M
    Hernandez, £2.2M etc)
