What the bookies think of Bristol City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion's promotion chances The Robins' flurry of transfer activity has left fans optimistic https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/what-bookies-think-bristol-city-3039597 Championship promotion odds Leeds United - 7/4 Fulham - 9/4 West Brom - 3/1 Cardiff City - 7/2 Middlesbrough - 4/1 Stoke City - 4/1 Huddersfield Town - 9/2 Brentford - 5/1 Derby County - 11/2 Sheffield Wednesday - 6/1 Swansea City - 6/1 Bristol City - 7/1 Birmingham City - 8/1 Nottingham Forest - 8/1 Preston North end - 8/1 Blackburn Rovers - 10/1 Hull City - 10/1 Luton Town - 11/1 Millwall - 16/1 QPR - 16/1 Wigan Athletic - 16/1 Charlton Athletic - 20/1 Reading - 20/1 Barnsley - 25/1 The bookies don't really rate us for promotion, they've got us down in 12th place even after our latest aquisitions.
I'm antipicating a good replacement for Webster and striker coming in with Kalas. I've backed City e/w @16-1 to finish top 3.
at this time of the year/ inter season the bookies are hunting money … odds will change as they play one against another ….. I ask you 25/1 Barnsley … agreed only for a chance to finish top 6 and go up .. but really …. LEEDS a bit tight but WBA 3/1 is a fair bet.. City at 7/1 -9/1 is good odds ….Birmingham and Florest look tight probably be 12/1 and any team below them at 16/1 or more Barnsley about 10/1
On Betfair we're rated 7th along with Brentford and Derby. Wearing my red sunglasses I'd be disappointed if we finished lower than those 2.
The OP has you behind the swans. As a (slightly less than) casual observer, I dont see that happenning.
In fairness we’ve only bought Bentley who’s likely to start. The others we already had last season and finished 8th. Szmodics may be a revelation and our next gem but I don’t expect him to start the season. I’m hoping Semenyo becomes a star this season as well. But to the bookies we are no stronger than last season.
So, youre no worse off than last season when you finished 8th. The swans finished 5 (?) places behind you and have lost their star player to manure. Thats why i dont see them finishing above you this season. Its all conjecture anyway. There well be bolters, bottlers and a few more sales and purchases, not to mention the january window. Its what makes the championship so compelling. Would still rather have stayed up though.
I just had exactly the same conversation RoD. Lloyd Kelly's transfer fee effectively paid to keep last seasons starting 11 together and whilst I'm delighted with the business done so far, I just wonder if the club might be looking at the O'Dowda and Webster situations before deciding the level and stature of the new players who could take us to the next level. Personally, if I were LJ, I'd want O'Dowda gone raising a reported £10 million (bad apple comes to mind). I'd be very happy to hold on to Webster but £25 million might be too much to turn down? Ipswich's reported 20% sell on clause would leave us with a combined £30 million to re-invest with a Nett spend of zero. Possibly that kind of money might raise the profile of players available.
