What are peoples thoughts on Adam's Island in the Kerry national? Back off a break so it'd be a tough ask!! I followed the horse last year for Rebecca Curtis and I was surprised to see it running for Paul Nolan anyone know how much it sold for?
2:45 Yarmouth - Darcey 13/2 Horse is both a C D winner and form for the past 3yrs seems to suggest this is the time of year to ctach her. 6f seems to be her distance, has won of a higher mark and the ground shouldn't be a problem.
Adam's Island is decently treated off 133 on his best form and should be open to improvement being pretty lightly raced. Has has won over 3 miles and with plenty of cut before so today's race conditions shouldn't worry him. My main concerns would be the 1) 154 day lay-off 2) the big field (biggest chase field he has run in so far is 11 but most of his chases have been very small fields) and 3) the change of stables (although the latter could be a positive as well). Given those 3 points I think prices between 7s and 9s are a little short. Muirhead is now a N/R so back to the drawing board for me .................
The one thing I log into Refugees for is to read Quiet Gambler's views on the staying chase races and I thought it would be good to put it up here (he won't mind - thoroughly pleasant chap and would be good for this board) "4.10 listowel. I'm backing adams island 9/1 E/W. I had a look at this race Saturday, and liked adams island and ponmeoath. I have adams island on a rating of around 135 1/2, on the race with baltizar king (if it is to be believed) - 7lb claimer riding, and the 133, now becomes 126, because of the 7lb claimer. Suggesting 9 and 1/2 well in. Was backing ponmeoath also, but now the claimer on adams island, probably means I'm just backing adams island. I have ponmeoath on 138 (the win, on march), and runs from 134. So fairly h'capped and could run big race. I backed him last year, and not keen on the basis of the last few runs - the problem is, are those runs bad due to ponmeoath is now old, or due to the handbrake being on lol (with this race in mind) My net runner, could be Sunday, plumpton. "
Hello lads. Thanks to Yorkies for the thread. Some decent fare for a Wednesday with the Kerry National and a decent Sandown card. Can't believe Mikhail Glinka is being tried over a mile in the Sandown Listed event, considering he won the Queens Vase last year over 2m at RA.Very strange indeed..unofficial racecourse gallop perhaps . The Kerrry National at Listowel looks a real good h'cap, not surprising considering the â¬96,000 first prize. The ground is very soft over there and it the 3m will take some getting. Off to unearth some mudlarks for that card. RV hope you aren't exceeding your daily four units of alcolade!! GL all having a punt.
With Muirhead now out the one I'm going to plump for is Lenabane who really odes deserve to win a decent race. 2 years ago he posted some excellent, consistent form behind some really good staying chasers (e.g 5 lengths behind Pandorama off levels over 3m, 6 lengths behind Burton Port off levels over 3m1f) and although last season started disappointingly with a 4th and PU, he had a nice long break over the winter and came back in May with an excellent 3rd behind Scotsirish in the Guiness Handicap Chase at Punchestown (3lbs better off with that one today) and went very close to winning last time out when just touched off half a length by Ballyholland at Galway (Scotsirish 5 lengths back off level weights). Lenabane is one of those horses who runs consistently well and therefore gets little respite from the handicapper. However I think there are good reasons for believing today could be his day. There is significant juice in the ground, which will suit him (anything around soft is perfect for him I believe) and off a mark of 138 he is only 2lbs higher than his 3rd in the Guiness Handicap Chase (which was his first run after a 6 month break). In summary, he is knocking very loudly on the door, has ground and trip to suit and looks a very attractive E/W proposition at 9/1
Have a 2nd look at Beverley 2.35 Argentine Ew my only bet today. Races of 7lb less in future but can take advantage of this lowly weight today especially as Julie Burke claims 5lb. Not out of it entirely last couple of runs and change of stable could end beaten run. Convinced? Neither am I but l'll have a dabbled. Any thoughts?
Paul Nolan said the plan is to jump him off quite handy and try and get him settled over the first three fences. He expects him to be a little fresh. He also said that soft ground in Ireland is a lot worse than soft ground in the UK and the horse must settle to have any chance of getting home.He sounded reasonably hopeful in what he conceded is a hugely competitive event.
Having just looked through the Kerry National I have to agree with you OddDog as I keep getting drawn back to Lenabane in the race.
Hello, all. Fair days racing today with couple of Listed races being the highlight from a quality perspective this side of the water and a corking and rich card at Listowel on the other side of the water. I'll though nominate one this eve at Kempton Park: Whispered (7.10 Kempton Park) - what a lovely name for a filly by the way. This one has gone close on all her outings to date this term but I think that she can finally break her maiden tag tonight. Her defeats can be attributed to getting beaten by some good types rather than any form of ungenuine behaviour and I think that Whispered can finally get off the mark here for Sir Michael and 'King' Kieren. Current quotes of 6/1 look more than reasonable to this correspondent. Good luck to all who wager today.
3.45 Yarmouth - Katy's Secret, 3/1 - NAP Katy's Secrets last 2 runs here have ended up with 2 wins here at Yarmouth and she come here with good form.6f's seems to be the better distance for her but she has won at 7f before. If the ground gets anymore rain it wont hinder her as she has won here on good and soft ground. A few front runners in this will mean that she can be produced to pounce and take this fairly competitive race. Not finished outside the first 3 in her last 5 runs, and i expect that run to continue... Others i like are.... 5.00 Yarm - Mujrayaat, 9/2 5.30 Yarm - Zafeens Pearl, 5/1 3.45 Bev - Dubawi Dancer, 5/2 A couple of combos of doubles and singles... Good luck to all who play today...
Says an awful lot about how bad the prizemoney is in this Isle when you consider that 6 horses rated 100+ (and one as high as 112) are tomorrow racing for a 1st prize of £4,075 (8.10 Kempton Park). That does not bode well for the old future, methinks... RV, just seen your post re Whispered and the eye-shield. Apparently, she’s wearing it because of the kick-back at Kempton. I’m not put off because as a wise old sage once told me ‘Never underestimate a filly wearing an eye-shield or an eye-patch’.
Listowel - 4.10 - Adam's Island 8/1 (Nap) I've convinced myself he'll win after noticing the jockey takes 7lbs off!!!
I’m quoting ‘King’ Kieren re the reasons for the eye-shield, old boy. Think he knows a thing or two about such things.
