If we are bottom 3 by Christmas, it won’t be because we spent too much on recruitment, it’ll more than likely be because we missed put on our targets due to offering too little
It’s brilliant. I’ve completely come round to it, since watching the first half of a game of women’s WC football which lasted 57 minutes.
Ask Boris the spaffer Johnson about talking bollocks he's a bollocks talking expert the gobshite bollocks that he is. Anyone taking of bottom three needs theirs spanked!
@SamWallaceTel: Southampton and Aston Villa have agreed a £14m fee for Matt Targett, rising to £17m including add-ons. Expect the deal for the left-back to go through this weekend. Good business for Saints; solid long term investment for AVFC
If it goes through, Matt will do a good job for Villa. Wish him all the best. Makes you understand why Che Adams price is so high IF we get that for a defender.
I've been openly critical about the price we've sold players for in the past. But £14m (rising to £17m) for Targett? A rumoured price of £10m for Austin? I know we're in an era of crazy prices, but even so, this is great business. Really good to see. If we'd sold him for £8m, I wouldn't have batted an eyelid really. I think he'll do for Villa, but at the end of the day he was a back-up LB for us. If that's what we're getting for a back-up LB, there's really not much excuse for not offering Birmingham another couple of million more for Adams, a player who we presumably see as a regular starter for us, in order to secure that signing. What we're offering now is, by all accounts, basically what we're selling Targett for.
Good luck Matty. He has done pretty well and i think will probably establish himself as a championship, maybe lower end prem, left back. Brilliant fee as well so credit to the club on this one.
Very satisfied with this personally if true, I've always liked and stuck up for Matty but ultimately he is probably not quick or adaptable enough to switch to LWB if required although we will be losing a valuable asset with his excellent crossing ability IMO. It's a more than good fee for him and we have the very promising Vokins in the pipeline so the left side is ok at the moment and I suspect the player himself might've asked Ralph about his future here and made the decision to move on to further his career. So pleased that he scored for his hometown club before he moved on, all the best Matty.
I really hope Ralph has spotted another gem on the conveyor belt, that would make this deal just perfect.
We may be in the position of having to let go of players not mainly because we don't think we need them, but also because the price is right and someone else wants them...but have other players we definitely don't want but can't shift. Not fair on Targett, but he would probably have got the odd game for us...from his point of view moving on is the best thing.
