Wiz, a YTFC friend of mine reckons he's probably as bad a striker he's ever seen

Great news if we get Da Silva & Kalas. My only concern would be, that these signings don't blow the budget for more players. In terms of the squad, even though we have signed these 2, we are in a worse position in terms of numbers, as technically these 2 were part of our team last season. I think Bentley would be a great signing as our No1, I'm not convinced by Maenpa, I think many disliked Frankie so much, that they felt anyone would be better (wrong call imo).
The young lad from Colchester certainly has potential and suits City's policy, as does Hogan who is at least proven at this level.

If Kalas does join, then who leaves as we will have, Kalas, Webster, Baker, Wright, Moore and Vyner as CB options, too many for me when we need to strengthen elsewhere in the team.

    I
I'd like to think it would be Wright but fear it will be Webster.

It's a very valid point you make. Sometimes you spend and stand still.
Fulham had the problem last year. £30M on a striker that they had on loan the season before.
Slightly different problem for us. 3 centre mids have left (two loanees going back). We've signed vaulks but need a couple more. We won't be any stronger as a result.
It's catch 22 though. If you don't sign then, you're in a worse position.
Damned if you do, buggered if you don't.

You seem to have done some decent business so far though.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Very true, the good thing is, there is always a good stream of young players to loan from the Premiership currently, as next to none of them will get a look in their respective first teams.
Look at Chelsea, Higuian is absolutely dog$hit, and yet they won't give Tammy Abraham a look in, and have loaned him out for 3 seasons on the bounce.

There seems to be a prejudice against British youngsters, though they'll spend millions / 10s of millions on foreign teenagers. More and more British youngsters running their contracts down and going abroad to get game time. Won't be long before British clubs start paying millions to get them back (sancho (?) Being a case in point). A fortune disappearing out of the British game.

One risk with taking on too many prem loanees is if you get promoted. You can only have 2 prem loanees in a prem squad.

As an aside, where do first choice keepers come from? Can never remember us having a youngster come through the ranks, nor noticed young keepers getting blooded elsewhere.
You always seem to buy keepers. But where do they all start?

you have to look at "the defence as a whole" not just 6 names … you have to add DaSilva & Hunt THAT MAKES 8 ...currently the first team squad is just 18 players no Semenyo or Janneh, Da Silva or as just signed Szmodics so that's 22?
how many do we name as first team squad? 25? so 3 more signings and does ODowda leave? …..

Our transfer business appears to be going fairly well but where are the goals going to come from next season. I think that our lack of consistency in that department was the main reason behind our missing the playoffs and I can't see Diedhou doing it all on his own, so we need more scoring power from more players.

Good point , it’s still early days yet though , I’m sure there’s a few more to come and hopefully one will be a striker, our midfield also needs to chip in with more goals too.
