The Cameroon players were a ****ing disgrace. VAR got every decision correct, however close. Lindgard's disallowed winner against Holland was pretty much identical. If you have VAR, then you have to have a line to judge the decision on. You can't say, oh that was only slightly offside so we'll let it go! As Neville said, Cameroon should have had a player sent off for a horrendous challenge and England should have had a penalty. The referee was totally useless.
Well of course VAR got the decisions correct, it would be bizarre if it didn't. The point is, is it an improvement to have every decision automatically reviewed, or should it be only on request? And is it an improvement to have decisions overturned for a millimetre here or there?
Something needs to be done, as the present format is unsatisfactory. Perhaps, as you say, 1 or 2 appeals per team may be the answer. Trouble is, you'll have benches watching instant replays and telling teams to appeal. Not sure what the answer is, but there were certainly far too many results being decided on incorrect decisions and most people were calling for help for the referees.
1 all now as var gives goal initially ruled out for offside......correct decision after wrong decision by lineslady.....
It took the VAR officials nearly 4 minutes in Norway's game with Australia yesterday to overturn a handball penalty decision against a Norwegian defender.. I think she played the ball on the line on the shoulder where it becomes an arm, and very hard to tell the right decision on multiple replays, but it's way too long. In the game now they have ruled out a disallowed Brazil goal for offside pretty quick, and correctly.
Thing I don't get is why don't be AR's flag for clear offside straight away....example there Brazilian girl 3 or 4 yards offside but play continues until she scores yet still no flag.....var review decided she was offside when it was clear in real time..... Offside is becoming the new no ball in cricket....officials rarely call them...
does anyone remember (and maybe I am showing my age) that offside is offside - regardless. For me interfering in playing is just cobblers - if you are on the pitch you are interfering with play. The Cameroon ladies - not a good advert for the ladies game
Thoughts: Phil Neville has got the ladies team playing with real passion and belief. This competition is proving he can manage - do you think he could cut it in the men's league?
Benitez leaving Toon so that’s one of the PL relegation places taken, and one of the Championship promotion places for 2020/21.
Two very good goals. The Norwegians and their manager have been rubbishing England for days. And now a fantastic strike from Bronze. 3 - 0.
England in the WC semi again. Very good performance against the mouthy Norwegians. Will meet one of the two best teams in the semi though, France or USA.
