I actually think if both Pogba and Lukaku left then Sanchez could get a place in the team.

Martial, Rashford and Greenwood could vie for centre forward, James on the left and Dalot even on the right. Rashford on right alternatively, with Martial as centre forward. Sanchez behind those with two CM's behind again.

Alternatively, Pogba stays and then Sanchez has to go, which would be the more preferable option for definite.

Is this that bad a team?

    That's with no further signings.

Need a leader in that midfield, there's effort from Mctominey and Fred but not much now how. Plenty of pace up top and that will cause problems.

If Pogba stays, that's where he comes in.

    Let the **** step up.

That's a worry, he's not going to be the man to drag you through a tough game.

Correct, but he's the player we currently have who would have to fit that role.

Two very good signings so far. Exactly the type of players we should be buying. Also pleased Mata has signed a new deal.

I would love to see a couple of CB's and a creative MF.

Trim the fat - Rojo, Jones, Young, Lukaku, Matic <ok>

Sometimes I forget Matic plays for us.

He should be a leader, but just disappears.

Herrera would be a good option for a lea.... oh yeah that’s right we let him go for free.

we need Eriksen - he would complement our midfield nicely.

From what I saw last season he looks very mature beyond his years, classy on the ball and passionate but he is playing for his boyhood club, maybe that counts for a lot.

Similar to McTominay though, so not sure where he goes.

I think the pros outweigh the cons. He's a senior player with the right attitude the youngsters need to learn from.

He's never been about pace so age isn't going to affect his game too much, It's his vision, creativity and composure that we still need until we find a replacement (ideally with pace).

And finally... I just like the bloke. Never in the headlines, gives his all when he plays, and has the right mentality. Pogba could learn a lot from him.

Pogba won’t learn **** from anybody though, he’s an arrogant tosser.

It’ll be literally days before Wan Bissaka is doing a badman bop with JLingz, Poggers and Rashylad.

oh don't get me wrong i like Mata both as a player & as a personality (at least what we see) i just think you already have a squad that needs trimming and i just fail to see him getting much game time particularly in year 2 .

Tbh, and i could be wrong, but I'm glad mata stayed. Yes he lacks pace but that has only been at the fore, imho, because we have been a mess. Mainly static

Mata makes good runs and let's the ball do the work. Not a comparison but a bit like scholes did and zidane. It's something that's hugely been missing from our game in recent years.

I think mata is an intelligent footballer but has lacked that around him. I've always thought that a quick 1-2 and movement surpasses out and out pace when teams are defending in numbers

For what it's worth I think lukaku has suffered with lack of movement. At Everton he got the ball played out in front of him to run into. We just didn't and haven't been doing enough in the final third.

    Thanks for that.

I been reading etc about him and he looks to be a ball playing type.

Just a bit concerned about the knee injury. Not often players get to full tilt if it's a bad one

There's plenty of fat to trim before him. I take your point about Yr 2 but in the grand scheme of things I don't think it'll matter too much. We've had the likes of Carrick and Fletcher with reduced game time in the later years but their experience counted for more imo.

Btw can't believe Mata's been with us for over 5 years already.

The only appealing thing about joining utd for Eriksen would surely be wages offered.

at the moment spurs are the more attractive side imo for obvious reasons
