Still on the bridle at the furlong post but never put into the race. He tried to thread him around the inside of the field but in reality gave the horse no chance of getting involved.
I can't say the thread is going well in terms of horses, but we are over a thousand page views. People must be intrigued to see what diatribe the thread comes up with next. So we are at -6 and worse of all the races aren't being won by horses coming from off the pace as i'd expected. However its Newcastle tomorrow and a course which hold up horses do exceptionally well at.
4.40 Newcastle A mile handicap on the straight course and a race that looks perfect for a new horse for the trainer Tristan Davidson. Paved With Gold is the horse, who brings to the table some very fair Irish form in the context of this race and I think we will see a good start to his British career tomorrow. This is a short preview because purely I think he will win and at 13/2 he is a cracking 2pt win bet.
So instead, I want to see if anyone has an opinion on the horse Bowerman who runs earlier in the card at Newcastle tomorrow. This horse is five years old and has only had five runs in his career, with three wins and last time out we saw him tank throughout the race and win by as far as he'd liked off a mark of 94. So my question to the forum is simple - Is Bowerman a Group horse in a handicap? I
Btn a head on 2yo debut by Stradivarius (despite running green). If he has progressed half as much as Stradi this will be a cakewalk
Not sure about a Group horse, but surely much better than the rest of this field. Shame he hasn't been tried on turf, but maybe there are reasons.
My confident selection is Symbolic Star at 100/1 in several places. Either wins or is unplaced (except once). So it's on the nose. By New Approach out of a Nashwan mare. What has he been doing running in 2m hurdle races. Then returns to the flat in heavy going. 43% win rate over C&D
I'll plum for Rebecca Menzies in mate Roman De Brut who she has bought from Ivan Furtado. New yard. new scenery. new beginning done the distance but may just have to much weight.
I was going to nominate Top Offer in that 4.40 at Newcastle heat but he’s just gone a non-runner! I seem to recall that one much loved and respected forum member once tipped him to win the ’12 2,000 Guineas (he actually went off as low as 14/1 for that race) after he romped home at Newbury on his debut. Never reached those heights but has won a subsequent 6 races. Thought he looked well treated today off 54 – a mark he won off over course and distance last term. But not to be, team…

Yuk, yuk, yuk. I have to say Nass, punting on these sort of races is a fast track to oblivion mate. But we're here to have a crack. The bottom one Toro Dorado was badly away at Lingfield over 9f about a month ago but ran ok early in the straight. He sort of ran out of steam in the last furlong. The only reason I'm siding with him though is because he's the only horse Ted Dunlop has entered for the meeting. More importantly, he's enlisted the services of De Sousa. Toro Dorado. E.W. P.S. Adventureman could run a race .... maybe.
A bit of rogue's gallery in the 4.40 Newcastle. Sherzy Boy is favourite despite being a maiden and he has been tried at as far as 13F and as short as 6F. Two wind surgeries and a stable change on his way to a 56 rating, he once ran off 75 in a Haydock handicap. Four 8th places were followed by a runner up spot three days ago and he is popular in the betting today. Stable form is hard to gauge with so few runners overall and he's skinny enough for me at 7/2. I preferred a horse with a similar profile in Roman De Brut. He's an older hand at the game but has at least won in the past. Transferred to Rebecca Menzies he joins a stable in good form and he has also tumbled down the weights. He has won from a mark of 70 and was once rated 79 but his travails have seen him dropped to 60 now and he is a five time winning, sixteen time placed horse who looks a machine in the context of this race. If a change of scene has helped he may run a very decent race today. He has won in class 5 company and should be in a more suitable grade of class 6 today than his last outing, 4.40 Newcastle Roman De Brut 6/1 2pts win
Backed into joint favourite and finished stone last. Says it all at the minute -8 so far Bowerman showed that he obviously still has issues too in the race before, such a fragile horse, I hope we see him out again in the next month or so if his wellbeing isn't damaged by that run. Never fear... 6.35 Newcastle - Tarboosh @ 7/1 - 2pt This horse is coming back to the boil and in my book he is very well handicapped dropping back into a handicap. If this was on turf he would be 7/2. Race will be run to suit, last years all the way winner Copper Knight is drawn nearby and pace is on the rail too with Moonraker and Foolaad, which should mean that Kevin Stott can find plenty of cover before producing him in the final furlong. I think with the pace drawn high (Puds being the other pace angle) it will mean that something drawn high will be able to get the perfect cover and come home with a rattle. That horse is Tarboosh.
Dunlop and De Sousa were very unlucky with Toro Dorado. It was a well planned idea, the first two came right away from the rest, and to be just beaten was cruel. But that's racing.
