Reading all these blimeys reminds me that just a week ago a Dutch online buddy returned home after a week here. I've known him for a couple of years and he came over for the Summer Solstice, and to meet up for the first time. Just to satisfy his requests I let out a few blimeys, crikeys and the odd strewth, so that by the end he was actually guffawing with laughter. He's very keen on language and loves the finer points of slang and how it originates. I suggested that when he speaks English elsewhere [which he does almost annoyingly well] he refrains from the crikeys and blimeys. He said that he couldn't guarantee it because he loves saying them so much. We even worked on his Hampshire accent. He's going to practice. <laugh>

EDIT: And I introduced him to 'mush' too.

My Brother and sisters have been over in Australia since the mid 60s. The older of my two sisters was thirteen when she went over but kept a bit of her Scottish accent. Get her angry though and she is using a full Scottish accent trust me. Same with my brother. My other two brothers were the same God bless them. Me, I was borne and bread mainly in England in my younger days, so never developed a Scottish accent. I have been going to Australia regularly at least once or twice a year since probably the mid seventies. sometimes staying in the earlier days up to 3/4 months at a time (through business and visiting family) as a consequence I picked up an Aussie accent certainly using a lot of their slang. Last year Christmas time a lady ran into the side of my wife's car carelessly . The lady was so Blasé about the whole matter that I blew my top to which she replied I thought you Aussies were more laid back than that..........Sure that helped.......<laugh>

Sheesh. How did we let the public school bully within a hair's breadth of the most powerful job in the country? The man is narcissism personified.

Where have I commented on if I, or anyone else should phone the police in any situation?

As for your comments again on the adult reporting abuse, I think it best we leave that. I’ve either got the wrong end of the stick on what you’re trying to say (or how it’s coming over), or we think very, very differently about people in abusive relationships and the responsibilities.

Let’s hope Parliament does the decent thing and calls a no-confidence motion the same day whichever of these unpleasant clowns takes office.

There's a whole swathe of James O'Brien LBC Show videos on YT, where he ties Brexiteers up in knots. They announce that such and such garbage is true and he repeatedly nails them with simple truth and logic. And he admits to starting out as a Leaver until he realised the full consequences by doing some proper research.

Johnson is a shambles, reflecting the cause he apparently stands for.

I'm not for illegal conduct, but I'd make a special case for this guy. If I was in the EU Commission I'd pull any strings I could get my hands on to make sure he gets put away.

There are times when I really, really, really miss Douglas Adams. Then there are the times when I just miss him not being around. This is one of the former:

I remember when that appalling travesty was allowed to happen, it turned me against Trump then and he’s done nothing to change my mind since.

The lunatics really have taken over the asylum and if anyone believes the PR **** Trump's henchmen put out they have to be simpletons in the extreme. What is really frightening is that it looks as if we are going to have our very own madhouse version of Trump very soon. This is the very first time in my life that I have felt I could cry for the future of the British people. The half that voted Brexit deserve all the **** it brings but as a remainer I have done nothing to deserve Farage's obnoxious bunch of bigots representing me in the European Parliament nor that dishonest lying hypocritical cheat as our next PM.

Well said Godders. I couldn't agree with you more. The Leavers, who feel let down by those in power [and have been in many cases] have hit the extreme right-wing button by voting Leave, and they have now played even further in the hands of those who wish to make the rich richer, and the poor get what's left. Which never is much once the rich have taken their cut.
