We're apparently considering a "**** you, Arsenal" bid by matching their offer for St Etienne's William Saliba, an 18 year old CB who broke through this season and at 6'4, seems like a potential unit in the making.
I got sent a link to this a few minutes ago by my cousin, who is a Gooner, bemoaning their new status as a EL club... https://www.justarsenal.com/had-to-happen-tottenham-trying-to-hijack-arsenal-deal/214918 To all those who have decried Spurs transfer business over the ENIC years, this is how it is when you don't have the CL gravy....You're shopping in a different market and scrapping over every penny, let alone the pounds....and then the clubs with money start taking an interest. Gone are the days when Arsenal rocked up, dropped the cash on the table and took the player home the same day. It's why we ended up waiting until the end of the window to do business, when the richer clubs had done their dough. Seeing us try to shop in June is a big step forward and I like it....almost as much as I like this article. Let's buy this bloke......because we can and I want to see my cousin weep.
It’s beautiful, it really is. Never thought I’d see the day where we consider signing a player just to basically turn around and give a “who’s the ****ing man?!” smile at Arsenal.
Buying to spite your neighbours is small club mentality / Sugga Daddy FC behaviour. If any of the Goon targets : 1. are decent 2. have also been monitored by Spurs scouts 3. Pochettino genuinely believes they fulfil a current/future need in the squad then why would Spurs not make offers for those players if their current club is interested in selling ?? Whether the Goons when going like for like on transfer/wage fees can still entice such players with the promise of Baku-ball, is another story.
It depends Remember, both we and the not-so-noisy-these-days neighbours were after Verts back in 2012, so us signing him was anything but a small club mentality as we decided to go toe-to-toe with them and won...not least as Wenger basically asked Verts "So you're happy to play as a defensive midfielder then?" while we explicitly said he'd be at the heart of our defence On the other hand, The Thaksin Shinawatra Team's signing of Carlos Tevez a few years back really did smack of a small club mentality, especially as that was in their nouveau riche period where they were throwing ludicrous wages at the likes of Roque Santa Cruz just because they could without considering how impossible it would be to move them on if they didn't work out
It was mostly a joke on my part. I'd never heard of this bloke before and have no idea whether we should or might sign him or not...but if we can drive the price up a bit, I'm all for it...All's fair in love and war....and transfer windows, after all.
When you are NOT a Sugga Daddy FC : Driving your rivals' transfer/wage costs up for a player they want and you do not, is fair game as far as I am concerned.
Ah wow didn’t know that... https://www.not606.com/threads/transfer-thread-fact-and-fiction.343033/page-599#post-12934425
I'll try my hand at an @Dier Hard impersonation: SkyBet (yes them, the betting company who directly profit from the news being reported on Sky Sports but no-one is allowed to talk about the shady legalities of this self-perpetuating loop exploiting vulnerable people because: reasons) have suspended all betting on Lo Celso joining us this window. I've been CK, you've been fantastic. Stick around for more DH tribute acts later today
