Announcements on substitutions? As we all knew who the players were Numbers on the shirts? The same reason above!
OK 20 try's Cardiff City were the last leagueteam to wear a badge on their shirts, in the 1925 and 1927 Cup finals they wore the coat of arms of the City of Cardiff, as a special dispensation from the Lord Mayor of Cardiff...............there was a conflict between the Ninian-Crichton -Stewarts who donated the land on which Ninian Park was built and the City of Cardiff who both wanted their coats- of -arms incorporated in the clubs badge,,,,,,,,,,,,,the conflict ran for years with the club refusing to get involved.........it was resolved in a very unusual manner. New Years Eve 1957, the great and the good were gathered in Cardiff Castle for a New Years Eve celebration, the outgoing Lord Mayor of Cardiff John Hinds Morgan ( a big cricket buff and a staunch supporter of Glamorgan CCC) agreed to settle the dispute once and for all by ARM WRESTLING a descendant of the original Lord Ninian-Crichton-Stewart on the stroke of midnight, apparently Hinds Morgan "won"............but there was some dispute had he pushed to early, a lot of people seemed to think he pushed before the castle clock struck twelve..................the umpire was one William Moncrieff Tennent, the son of Henry Moncrieff Tennent the first manager of Cardiff's New Theatre............Our nickname the Bluebirds comes from the Maurice Maeterlinck play "The Bluebird" that had it's UK premier at the New Theatre in 1910, the year that we first moved into Ninian Park,,,,,,,,,,it was decided that the badge would contain either the word "Bluebird" or a Bluebird logo.........and it has done ever since. Fancy not knowing that Sad I know......................but God I love this club I'll get my coat
