It's the same as when we sold Ross, the club do not want to sell Phillips so they have slapped an asking price on him that is way above his value to ward teams off but if a cash rich club is tempted then we could do a lot of damage with £30m

If we hadn't got Shackleton I would fear who would replace Phillips even with £30m trying to get a ready made replacement for the right kind of wage isn't going to be easy and I don't understand why you can't see that Forshaw isn't a holding midfield player, he doesn't do Phliips job even half as well and he doesn't do much of a job as an attacking midfield player either.

For the record I think Phillips is more valuable to the team than Alioski and Pontus, don't get me wrong, all three are worth a starting position but I can see Alioski being used like Dalllas next season, if we do get Harrison and Costa they are going to be one and two, Douglas will reclaim LB leaving Alioski as a good utility sub.

There are only two possible reasons why Bielsa wants three wingers, he either wants more attacking threat on the wing than Alioski provides him or he sees Alioski as a LB

Alioski did great at fullback. Completely ineffectual on the wing imo.

Can Bielsa teach Alioski new role I wonder

Another WHU story starting now with Hugill why TF would we want a striker who scores no goals

Don t know for sure but it would be standard practice. The same way as turnover would be reported as net of VAT. For example season ticket sales would be reported in the accounts as 10m but club actually receive 12m from fans, 2m going to inland revenue. But you might be right, different sources might report differently but the club should always report net.

Let me put it this way, respectfully of course.

The way some are talking about Phillips, they're making out the team will crumble without him, sounds like if Phillips leaves, the team may as well pack up cos they won't achieve anything.

With all the sideways and backwards passes for most of game, that doesn't leave much time for these super dooper skills everyone talks about, and the ones we ain't seen yet. Maybe if he didn't go missing, or attempted to run back and help the defence occasionally we might see some of these so called skills.

What does Phillips bring to team?

Forshaw normally plays a duel role in Phillips position, he does a better job in defence, he also runs at defenders with the ball which makes'em backtrack gaining ground forward for us, he helps to set up attacks, which is why Bielsa probably put him in the attacking mid role.

Please, Please, Please, someone mention what great impact Phillips brings to team that our team can't do without him.

Whatever it was he did last season obviously didn't work, cos the team who can't do without him crumbled, so did Phillips.

The reason no-one is bothering to discuss KP is that most of the industry experts are all agreed on his excellence.

The fact that it's almost unanimous suggests that either LL knows more about assessing a player than any expert that has taken time to assess him (which is a lot), or that LL is a complete & utter knob that is driven to prove it time & time again.

I'm guessing that the latter is more likely. Choose almost any of his posts/rantings to prove it. <doh>

Btw, who was the last player we slapped a £30m valuation on? Think it might have been Ferdinand, myself.

He sits in front of the back four, reads the game well, intercepts, marks the opposition 10 out of the game (see grealish) if required. Is strong on and off the ball, is prepared to get physical if need be. On the ball he has an excellent first touch, and a good range of passing. He makes lots of short passes.. yes plenty are square and some are back, but that is part of the short passing possession football we play and he is asked to play. He helps set the tempo of the side.

I think sometimes it’s easier to see in the flesh than on tv. I don’t get to see many live games but when I have, he always impresses. Away at boro he was, along with pablo, the best player on the pitch. He dictated the play. That was my view and the one of the boro fan sitting next to me.

He made the championship team of the season so it’s not just Leeds fans getting over excited by an academy product.

Is he perfect? Of course not. Did he make some errors last year? yep,

You decided he was crap a while back and although that round hole now has a square peg, nothing will stop you from trying to fit it in.

Let’s be brutally honest, you just dislike Phillips, he wins player of the season awards, Premier League teams are looking at him, our last 5? coaches all select him, fans on here and social media all see how important he is yet you’re the sole individual who can’t see what he brings and has to ask. Nobody apart from you feels Forshaw is better or a better defensive midfield player so we’re all wrong and you’re right?

    We lost promotion because of;

    1) A keeper error
    2) Not scoring enough goals despite creating more chances than anyone else
    3) Injuries
    4) Creative players like Pablo crumbling with 5 games to go
    5) Bamford being poor
    6) Coming out a weaker team after the January transfer window than we were on the 1st December

Any one of those 6 or a combination of them is the reason we never went up. If we sell Clarke and Forshaw they’ll hardly be missed, Clarke might develop into a superstar but he isn’t at this moment in time, loosing Phillips would be a massive loss and we’d have to hope someone like Shackleton would fill his boots as we’ve seen Forshaw play there and we look awful when he does.

As for too much sideways passing, Phillips and the rest of the backline are asked to do so from time to time, it’s in order to give the team a breather as we play a pressing game, I assume you’re ignoring the great forward passes he has often done as well.

There’s an old saying that applies to LL on this one I think “when in a hole, stop digging”
