In a competition that Everton have never even qualified for... you're definitely in the right position to laugh mate
Not sure why the fuss about VaR and the penalties rules say you can’t move off your line... keeper moves off the line. Re take. How many times do you see it in the prem where keeper is 2 yards off his line and nothing happens. If its a rule, enforce it. That’s what they’ve done and they’ve been consistent. Now booking s keeper for it is wrong and fifa have taken 1 step by saying won’t get booked in a shootout for it but need to remove it from general play as well. Fact that it will be re taken is enough to stop it happening there is no need to book them.
Maybe thatchers political tactic to suppress the working class game didn’t help either. Pushing for the ban on English clubs, think a set of fans made a banner about the final winners that first season.
I'm glad you've spotted he said competition and recognise that the European cup and champions league are one and same. Funny how people mistake a 20 team, 3 point for a win, top league for not the "league" cos the fa created a trophy aped off the European cup
Exactly. It's like when you hear someone hammering on about this player or that player like they are the best ever cos they were around in thier generation. The champions league is as hard as ever to win. The only difference now is the top 16 are assured of being last 16 more for less so the random eastern European dodgy team/ref/result doesn't happen any more.
obliviously or that argument doesn't work with a lot of teams, real and ac milan an example, esp barca.
but to qualify you had to be league champions, not a team in 2nd 3rd or 4th to win who have won it. ( maybe not a team in 4th not to sure, but the other positions they have)
The ‘he was better in his day’ comparisons are pointless, a pet hate of mine tbh. You can only judge players in their own timeframe up against players of their era, as there’s too many variables over time. Some of my favourite players at Everton during my lifetime aren’t the most skilful or the obvious, but the ones who gave their all every week, week in, week out. I’m an old fart though.
Ah but now it's not a last 16 of 16 different countries of vastly different ability. It's 16 absolute top clubs. If you have for example Slavia Prague Salzburg Bate Ludogorez Man city Barca Ajax Psg Juve Paok Bayern. Rosenberg Young boys Just as an example. Not much of a competition all of a sudden Yes I agree about it being a tough call on some leagues but the reality is Barca, juve, bayern would eat the lot for breakfast.
why would they need to be old to mention kuyt? i don't know if tobes rates kuyt, but from a reds point of view he was a grafter and gave his all, so probably something tobes could relate to with his team. we all want one of them players.
