There could be something to the Filip Krovinović rumour. It has the look of SW's Buendia move as a possible alternative to Turnbull. He plays as a number 10 and can also play as a second striker or deep playmaker. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filip_Krovinović His stats look good but he's lost his way a bit since signing a 5 year contract with Benfica two years ago. Rated at £4.5m on TransferMarkt, he would seem to fit the DF rehabilitate your career model a la Leitner, Trybull and Vrancic. He'll be 24 in August and has good experience with two Zagreb teams in Croatia and in Portugal as well. He has 11 caps for Croatia U21s and could have potential to develop under DF. On loan, it could be a sensible move with a possible permanent if it works out, but the key question is whether we need another player in that position. Edit: The Pink'un has now picked up the story and have added this: "Portuguese sports newspaper, Record, report on Friday morning the Canaries have an interest in the 23-year-old, who is back on the comeback trail after a season wrecked by a knee injury. Benfica want game time for the Croatian Under-21 international, with Vitória Guimarães and Hajduk Split in his homeland, previously touted as options earlier this summer. Record suggest the Canaries are in advanced discussions for Krovinovic, who operates behind the striker in the number 10 role. The right-footed attacker made 12 appearances in an injury-disrupted season for Benfica, but was behind the likes of teenage sensation João Félix for the Lisbon club. Krovinovic has indicated he is open to a loan move next season as he looks to force his way into Croatia's Euro2020 plans." They also conclude that a loan deal makes good sense. https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-transfer-rumours-filip-krovinovic-benfica-1-6118223
There's a photo on twitter now of Celtic recording a welcome interview with Turnbull, presumably to be released with the official announcement - so that's all done and dusted
RUMOUR CONTROL - Turnbull turned down a move to NR1, as we couldn't guarantee him playing time!!! When you look at our options - Stieperman, McLean, Bendy, Hernandez, Cantwell etc; it's easy to see why!!
Not to mention Leitner and Vrancic! Meanwhile the Krovinović loan deal is looking even more likely: http://sportwitness.co.uk/everything-indicates-player-set-sign-norwich-city-canaries-better-option/ SW doesn't hang about when a deal falls through!
Where players are training over the summer is apparently the latest source of transfer rumours: -Nelson Oliveira has been seen training with one of the Reading fitness coaches -Jordan Rhodes has been training with NCFC coaches, Tettey, Hoolahan and Carlton Morris: please log in to view this image So Rhodes is presumably still around Norwich, rather than heading back to Sheffield right away. Of course, the players aren't expected back for pre-season training for a while, over the summer they're given personalised plans to work on wherever they like.
I like Rhodes but really not that bothered if he comes back. He is not a signing that would represent any sort of progress. I suppose a reasonable stop gap till Idah is ready. Bah!
To be fair to him, we were probably offering him a loan to the Championship and then a place in our squad for 2020-21. Celtic will probably give him first team football, and then sell him to Southampton in a few years time. He knows the SPL, he knows he'll score plenty and look impressive, and get to play in the Champion's League to boot. A scrappy season on loan at a mediocre Championship squad could easily ruin his career.
Adeus Nelson e boa sorte. http://carrowroad.net/index.php?post=transfer-rumour-norwichs-oliveira-available-on-a-free-transfer
Seems ALMOST certain!!! http://sportwitness.co.uk/everything-indicates-player-set-sign-norwich-city-canaries-better-option/
If we are targeting Krovinovic, as it seems we are, SW and DF clearly don't agree with you JM. My reading of it is that they are looking for cover in the event that the EPL proves a step too far for some of our current favourites.
I think the difference is Webber/Farke want to create competition, rather than promise people playing time. If Turnbull wasn't happy with taking the risk that he fails to displace Stiepermann all season, then it's right that he goes elsewhere. Equally, we might well have been offering to loan him out, and with that comes additional risks. Currently we don't have a great deal of cover for Stiepermann. Cantwell or Buendia could play that role, but they're different types of players. I think competition for Stiepermann would be healthy if we can secure someone appropriate.
I’d argue we have quite a lot of cover for Stiepermann to be honest, Buendia, Cantwell, Roberts, Vrancic and McLean can all play there.
